Looking for someone who has had bollards fitted to their driveway - the automatic retractable ones are silly ££ so looking for the ones where it’s just lock and key for now, if anyone has any recommendations

Got two for my car port and some on the drive

They were about £80 or so,  but they aren't the best quality. I need to modify them so they are more secure. I also took the locks to a locksmith and got them keyed alike, so all on the same key.

My home security is something I take pretty seriously. I'm behind an electric gate too.

CCTV

window films

Garage guardians

Pat Lock

Sash jammers

Security handles

Laminated glass

Barred windows on garage

Security lighting

Anti bump snap locks

Alarm

Faraday bags for keys

Locks in the garage

Probably more

If I go on holiday I take the ECUs out the cars and they go off site.

We had this one fitted. Excellent service. Everyone I spoke to said avoid the electric and battery ones as they are so unreliable.
Takes seconds to put up or down.

Thanks gents - my mate had his M3 and wife's car stolen with a couple of nice guys in the hallway with balaclavas on and he is also looking for a solution when/if he gets the cars back...

Wow! That's an impressive security list - do you work in counter terror/security services?

My old neighbour had to have his house security proofed due to a threat from dissident republicans, and didn't get that lot. Mind you, he did have a gun so, there was that extra protection

I don’t even lock the doors to the house and often leave the keys in my car, tractor and quad bike 😂

Became a bit of a hobby when I bought the house. Unfortunately I've known a few too many of the people I want to keep out,  so it's not something I'm complacent about.

I only use the driveway bollards if we're going on holiday, but the carport bollards are in constant use, because it's a car I hardly use. Even if they took it, it wouldn't get far, it's left on a valet map so won't go over about 20mph and it's tracked.

If you've got the keys in a Faraday bag, then your car is secure from relay, so I would look at securing your house so they cant get your keys.

I don't think bollards are preventing guys in balaclavas. If someone tried to smash my windows they would still be there in the morning.

That's the ultimate security. Let them get in first, then lock the door.

I had my first ride in a Tesla the other day. Maybe controversially, I can't say I'm all that impressed.

Sure it's all electric and has masses of tech etc, but the interior is just, well, bland.

Just the one interactive screen and nothing else. No "dashboard" with electronic dials or speedo/rev counter or anything else that I like in a "cockpit". Do I really need to see traffic cones and irrelevant parked vehicles on the screen?

My own "normal" car has a kind of wrap around feel from the driving seat which appeals to me. Little lights on the steering wheel, the door handle recesses, a nicely illuminated centre console. Actual dials in front of me, I don't mind if they're analogue or digital, just something that responds to my input. I know it's subjective but those things appeal to me.

I have no doubt there are EVs that have those things I've mentioned, but I expected more driving excitement from a Tesla.

This is the greater Toronto area in general but is talking about the two major cities next to my town. We have a massive problem in southern ontario partly because of our governments inaction to increase sentences for these criminals and further our lack of security at the montreal port (mafia has their hands in that). So they steal cars here ship them to Montreal and then overseas they go.

Criminal gangs get kids to do it as our young offenders act is ****in useless (as is our justice system for the adult criminals).

Burn them all at the stake! Lol

Completely agree, and I think it is quite a jump from your normal car.  Also not very luxurious at all so if you are used to leather everywhere and adjustable everything etc. you are not going to find it in a Tesla.  A lot of other manufacturers are not going down that road experience wise and that is a lot more appealing to me.

I test drove a Jaguar I-pace. It was pretty luxurious, leather everything, heated everything, heads up display, 360 degree camera etc.

The only thing I felt, probably because of how quiet it was, was that I noticed every other noise around me, other cars, road noise and traffic. It wasn’t bad at all and I’d probably adjust really quickly, it was just a little strange (and very pleasant).

I had a test drive in a Telsa when we were considering an EV, I was very disappointed with the interior. It's so stark and drab. The drive was fairly good, but the suspension is, I'll be kind and call it 'quite firm'.

Lots of other EV's have a similar interior to an ICE car. The I-pace has the same interior as a ICE Jaguar and that was a significant factor in my purchase. The heated everything and ability to start preheating remotely after a very cold match is a joy :D

Yes exactly, I cannot be going from a LR Discovery HSE to some tacky plastic shit from a company owned by a psychopath.

I've always thought the parents should be held legally accountable for the actions of minors.

Pisses me off that kids can go round damaging stuff and getting away with it.

That's a slippery slope though and hard to control when teens are being knobs. They will ignore what parents say, leave at night, do stupidness which isn't necessarily the parents fault.

Back in the day my dad would beat/slap us as a deterrent and it worked.

Nowadays, you can barely yell at a kid before children's aid is called. I understand that's to protect against real child abuse though so better to err on side of caution for that.

Having said that, if a teen commits a crime like stealing a car there needs to be actual real deterrent and consequence otherwise it's a slap on the wrist and they do it again (likely).

My mate used to own a window blind fitting business and always took all the tools out of his van every night.

It still regularly got broken into and was costing him. In the end he just left it unlocked and empty.

Has it gotten to the point where you can't px a Tesla yet? Feels like it's becoming a heavy risk for a dealer to take on.

From my Sis in law experience, it's buy new or struggle to get the model you want as few resale forecourts won't take on the loss.

Px Teslas and other EV's have such a fall off the resale cliff that they aren't attractive to second gen dealers to take on.

I don't know what happens to 2nd hand Teslas but I imagine there must be some but not many dealers that will buy cheap but expect a percentage drop in any resale.

It's not just Tesla, it's every EV that isn't worth a lot.

Prices have dropped off a cliff.

If you bought one on a finance deal, brand new, you're screwed.

You're stuck in that car until your PCP finishes and you're handing it back to the finance company, then starting again.

The banks are then going to be screwed too, because they'll have thousands upon thousands of 3/4 year old cars on their hands, worth absolutely fvck all.

Great for a second hand buyer though.
