Any recommendations for an EV installer in the Leicestershire area?

Podpoint are really good but they are a national firm

They would need to be, average stop at a petrol station probably a few minutes compared to significantly longer at electric chargers

There will need to be more for full EV take up,  but the time a car needs to stand charging is countered by the number of times the majority of  EVs needs to use public facilities.  I would estimate in the 4 years I've had an EV it has spent in total around a qtr of the time at a public charger than it would have had at a petrol pump

I would look for a local firm loads do it.

I'm not even sure pod point installers are qualified electricians. They're only authorised to do the most basic of processes any hint of deviation or complication they'll walk away leaving you in the lurch.

We had 6 installed at work and 4 at residential addresses, not one blip in 4 years.

Plenty of electricians can do it,  the make/model of charger is more important,  as not all allow you to access Smart Tariffs.

Are Ohme ok?  E-On are now charging almost 1300 for an install but going through Ohme directly costs 999.

We have the Ohme epod and it is a very neat bit of kit. Works with all electricity suppliers that do cheap rate overnight tariffs.

I commented on the iX3 a few months back after sitting in 1, I think come tomorrow night you’ll sadly be regretting testing it especially if the lead times don’t fit into your current scheme, it blew my mind honestly, 🤞 for you.

Yeh it was a nice car just a bit small - I’d want the 50 variant as there is a 12 month wait so it’s a no go, thought the IX was crap.

Yeah it was the 50 variant I sat in with all the bells and whistles & the fast charge of 230miles in 10 mins or 10-80% in 21mins.

Was sat next to a Tesla, a Chinese make not BYD can’t remember which now thou and a Merc which was also nice but the BM just stood out.

Shame about lead times, the hunt continues for you then?

Ohme are great with Octopus. I've been using an Ohme Commando socket version for 5 years. Cost < £300 back then and never had an issue. Looks like it's closer to £500 now but still way cheaper than most - https://www.electricpoint.com/ohme-go-commando-7kw-tethered-type-2-smart-ev-charger.html
