Should we win the Premier League, The Leicester Tigers win the Aviva Rugby Premiership, The Leicester Riders win the NBL surely there will be a new statue in town? You could add the cricket in there but they've been awful for years now.

Like the suggestion about a new statue. From what I can gather, Leicester is a good area for sport in general and there's a lot of examples of this as you've mentioned already. To be totally honest, I don't particularly follow any other sports apart from football but another statue would be nice considering the sporting achievements that have taken place in our area.

They aren't 5000/1 to win the league this year, a mere 25/1.

Tigers and County have really gone off the boil recently but a nice sign on the M1 near Chesterfield saying "Welcome to the East Midlands, home of Leicester the worlds sports capital" would be nice.

When does the snooker at the Crucible start? Could have Selby as world champ too.

Isn't that around a May bank holiday, (the final that is) fairly sure he won it the year we got promoted, could be wrong though.

But it stands out that the season has ended and he didn't get to bring the trophy down like he has for others when not on tour.

In which other city could you see top class football & rugby union hopefully both next year in europe, cricket, a top UK basketball team, national hunt horse racing, speedway all within a few square miles.

Let's not forget bottle kicking!!

Aren't the speedway team pretty good too?

They're in the elite league, they're not the side they were many years ago at Parker Drive but they've only been going 5 or 6 years.

Speedway leagues don't relegate, promote teams though, they started out in the Premier, had one excellent season, then moved up to the elite league.

It's a good night out, trouble is home games are Saturday's so during the season it clashes with football usually from now until the end of the season. Weather plays a massive part in it, a lot of matches get postponed in spring due to rain.

Outside of London, us and Newcastle are the only cities to boast division 1 premiership football and rugby union teams, and both ours are good, both of Newcastles could be relegated this year

I am sure when we won the league cup in 97 that the tigers won the prem and the cricket won the league as well and the council erected a statue near the clock tower in town

They did, it's still there. It was a Pilkington Cup for Tigers rather than the title though.

We almost bettered it in '99. County and Tigers were both league champions but we just missed out in the League Cup final against Spurs.

Now county are shite and Tigers aren't what they were. We have very good football and basketball teams, a decent rugby union team, a world class snooker player, a poor cricket team and a middling speedway team. I'm sure there's other stuff going on too. Lots of sport in this city.

I dunno, the last time we tried to commemorate it we got that abomination... If they want to fund a city improvement in the name of sporting success, I'd be up for that.

Don't think our cricket team are crap anymore think we will have a good season

I don't know enough to give an informed opinion to be honest. I like to see all local sides do well though so I hope you're right.

Never knew he was a local boy! A work of pure art. Has there ever been another statue of a bowler? Probably not.

Ladies Hockey team are in their sport world class, I hope people are right about the county cricket team, would really put more icing on the cake for this year.
