FireFox Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 We conceded 2 goals a game when De Laet started last season. We simply must buy a new RB. God forbid he plays against a good champions league team.We also were playing with Schlupp at LB, the first few games Kante only got on as a sub or not central, and maybe it just took a while for the team as a whole to defend how Ranieri wanted, yes the fullback changes helped but they probably weren't the only changes he made. Also, I remember RDL helped to rip apart Man U "a good champions league team" in the 5-3.
Gerard Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 We conceded 2 goals a game when De Laet started last season. We simply must buy a new RB. God forbid he plays against a good champions league team. And Schlupp too at left back. One thing last season has taught us is that full backs are there to defend first and foremost. If they can offer an attacking threat then that's brilliant but we need them to be rock solid in a back four primarily. Conceding two goals a game with De Laet & Schlupp is unsustainable as they weren't contributing that much more offensively than Fuchs and Simpson to justify it. De Laet is a square peg in a round hole at Leicester as he's just not good enough defensively, he has to go.
Gerard Posted 20 June 2016 Posted 20 June 2016 Both make mistakes. Simpson with his shitty back passes to no one in a blue or yellow shirt and De Laet gets turned way too easily, leaving him out of position and chasing an opposition player long gone. I'd say that makes De Laet worse seeing he at least gets to see what he is doing wrong. The RB position is the weakest slot on the team sheet for LC, the number of times Kante turned up on the right to cover for Simpson couldn't be counted because he knows he is poor. De Laet would just lose possession higher up the field so even Kante wouldn't get time to get across to cover for him. I think pretty much everyone knows we need to find or develop a good RB. I have a similar opinion of Simpson but some on here would have him as a right sided Maldini. Simpson is solid enough but prone to make mistakes as well. The Man Utd game a couple of months a go I was at Old Trafford and I could see Lingard??? waiting to pounce if he tried to square it rather than passing it back to Schmeichel, the second yellow at Arsenal was also naive and the pass back at Man City when it was 3-1 with two minutes to go, if Aguero scores that then it could be a really nervous last two minutes when we were 3-0 up with five minutes to go. I'd certainly have Simpson as a squad player but if there are two positions we have to replace this summer it's Simpson and Okazaki's. They are both must's IMO.

Don't think any player will go through a season without making mistakes - Morgan our most reliable defender had a shocker at Stoke, gave away a penalty v West Ham with a needless push, straight after the ref had warned him and Huth.

Thank you. Simpson did a helluva job at right back this season and his defensive stats prove it. We didn't need (and probably still don't need) a spectacular passer at right back behind Mahrez but a solid defender who could lock down his side without a ton of help from his winger. Sure, he's not the greatest right back in the world but I couldn't think of many PL RBs I'd rather have in his spot.
Countryfox Posted 27 June 2016 Posted 27 June 2016 Done deal to Derby for De Laet so I'm told. Bloody Direby ! ... here we go.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 Any news on these 2? Seems they are both set to go to Derby?
Jattdogg Posted 29 June 2016 Posted 29 June 2016 Wish them well if they go. Did us proud while here but we are big time now and need bigger time players

Huth's pass back towards Kasper away at Aston Villa for example. The fact that you've indicated so few errors says he's been very consistent.
