Trav Le Bleu Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 People saying James needs to be moved on have forgotten when everyone thought he was the better midfield option than Drinkwater. Given the same opportunity as Danny, I don't see why he can't be as good, so yes, loan him out and hopefully get him back as a rehabilitated player ready to step up.
Dan Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Called both of these as soon as he went there. Don't think there'll be any others though.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 I can't see the 'love-in' with Matty James. Always thought he was a championship player, certainly not a Premier League player.

Dunno where people get "he was ahead of Drinkwater" from. No he wasn't. James was a good Championship player, very injury prone though and now won't get infront of Drinkwater, Kante or King.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 James needs fitness but unsure if he'd ever realistically get in our team.
v6rat Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 If they both go to Derby, it would show that we're more than happy to help out a much smaller, useless, lower division team.

Merging Cultures Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 clearly Sky took a look in here and then made the story.
Fox92 Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Why did he keep getting picked instead of DD last year, then? Because Pearson couldn't keep a settled team as we were bottom? Drinkwater and Vardy, among others, were in and out of the side.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 De Laet makes sense. James would be a real shame, I think we should at least try and get him fit and see how he does. There's no reason he can't compete with Inler & King. ThisPerhaps James only on loan for a couple of months to get match fitness?
dayday Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 The Sun also said that De Laet and James was Pearsons top targets, then they go on to say De Laet is 27, James 30. Talk about putting Years on James
Jimothy Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 James has been unlucky and reached a point in his career where due to a bad injury he's been replaced and the club has moved passed him. He could stay and battle, but we've managed a season without him and we're looking to improve the squad even more. He may just need to move on, and even down a level to rebuild his career. Had the club not progressed so quickly he might have been able to work his way back in, but I can't see it now.

We won the premier league without him, even if he was fit would he have got in over king, inler, amartay?
Jimothy Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 We won the premier league without him, even if he was fit would he have got in over king, inler, amartay? That's the point I'm making! He was injured at the end of last season, we signed Inler and Amartey since. The club has moved on since he last played and he's place has been filled. If he was fit we msy not have signed someone, but we did. Now we're more than likely going to try and improve what we've got, not go back to last season, so he'll probably have to move to start playing again.
Thracian Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Can't imagine James will become a better player after having such a long-term injury but good luck to him if he proves me wrong. Can't see any harm done by transferring him to Derby if that's what he wants, whatever the fee. Having the good grace to let him kick-start his career won't do us any harm. The bloke's had a long enough setback. DeLaet's been a good servant too but it'd probably be a good move for him as well. Best of luck to both if it hapens.
Dan Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 James isn't a bad player but he's a bit of a jack of all trades and master of none. Think he's quite unlucky but that's the way it works out. I'd sell De Laet as he isn't good enough, and I'd loan James out, although I wouldn't be surprised if should James get loaned to Derby that he ends up wanting to permanently stick around there.
Sharpe's Fox Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Still baffled at why people are still righting off certain players these days. I repeat, we won the league with Wes Morgan, Danny Simpson and Marc Albrighton and none of those players had looked as comfortable as Matty James in the Premier League before this season.
Bunyip Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Jeez people on here saying James isn't good enough ? bloody short memories . up until his injury he was every bit as good as Drinkwater and still could be . De late yes he was clearly not good enough . But how do you armchair managers come to the conclusion James isn't a premiership standard player ? he was one of the reason we stayed up in the first place. Sometimes I think this club doesn't deserve some of the idiot supporters it attracts.
gurru991 Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Matty James is a quality player who with good coaching could be at the same level as DD. Get him out on a short term loan & see how he does. Not sure if Pearson would be the ideal coach to work with James though. He doesn't have a great track record of improving players !!!
Raw Dykes Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Because Pearson couldn't keep a settled team as we were bottom? Drinkwater and Vardy, among others, were in and out of the side. You're only proving my point. Drinkwater was in and out of the side (more out than in), and James was picked more consistently alongside Cambiasso - James was ahead of Drinkwater.
Ian S Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 Didn't think James was that good in our side that stayed up, marked space, didn't do a lot and missed some great chances, so now we're aiming higher I don't think he'll get a look in. £2m for the pair would be some good business for us. You were watching a different Matty James to me.!
foxes21 Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 If James goes out on loan, he wont play for us again because we will have to sign another CM. & if Kante goes next year, we'll need a better replacement for him than James..
GingerrrFox Posted 30 May 2016 Posted 30 May 2016 James won't be going anywhere unless he chooses to move. De Laet will 100% be off this summer.
