davieG Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Squad: Goalkeepers: Joe Hart (Manchester City), Fraser Forster (Southampton), Tom Heaton (Burnley). Defenders: Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), John Stones (Everton), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur), Ryan Bertrand (Southampton), Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur), Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool). Midfielders: Dele Alli (Tottenham Hotspur), Ross Barkley (Everton), Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), James Milner (Liverpool), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal). Strikers: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Jamie Vardy (Leicester City), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Marcus Rashford (Manchester United).
Jimothy Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 The numbers have been given out as follows. Not sure it actually means anything as I'd expect Dier, Wilshere and Alli all to start ahead of Lallana, Sterling and Milner.
Finnegan Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 English international football in a nutshell: 12 year old scores a couple of goals for Man United, goes to major tournament. One of best midfielders in top flight, key player orchestrating Leicester ****ing City winning premier league? Left at home. Absolutely mad. Sorry boys, but this is why you'll never win anything until you get a serious shake up. You'll get further than us, obviously, but if that's really all you ever want to achieve, I'd be surprised. Jordan ****ing Henderson? Jack Wilshire, who hasn't played all year? Barmy.
GaelicFox Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 The sniggers in every Scottish/Welsh/Irish pub today at Drinky being left at home must have been very loud ! Personally I'm glad he gets a rest this summer and not messed about any further by a senile old fool
Captain... Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Disappointed for Danny, but from an England point of view it makes more sense to take an extra forward when Sturridge is an injury risk and Rooney is dropping back into midfield. We have plenty of options at centre mid and all have more experience of international football than DD, unfortunately he didn't take his chance against Australia.

If Sturridge is such an injury risk why take him? Seems pointless. You'd be better off taking Townsend and having another wide man, rather than having just the one winger.
Larry_LCFC Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Absolute farce. Rashford will start ahead of Vardy, you watch.
Soar Fox Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Good I'm glad he's not gone just a shame he didn't drop Vardy aswell. They will scrape through the group stage, then get knocked out in the next round. Wilshere will get injured after the first game and won't play anymore in the tournament. Henderson will just shoot whenever within 50 yards of the goal.

You'd be better off taking Townsend and having another wide man, rather than having just the one winger. He is not a massive injury risk, but he is prone to injury and we need goal scorers to win games, Sturridge, Vardy, Kane, Rashford, Rooney have all proven themselves to be goal scorers and match winners. If Drinkwater is to be dropped I would rather it be for more firepower.

I know what you mean, but you have to consider that Drinkwater doesn't play in 4231 or diamond for us, he plays in an energetic box to box midfield 2 with 3 energetic players in front of him screening the midfield and keeping the defenders pinned back and a maverick genius whilst a disciplined back 4 behind him that don't go chasing lost causes. Drinkwater has had an amazing season, but he hasn't proved he replicate that in Roy's England side. Have Henderson, Wilshere or Dier? That is debateable, but they have been reliable for Roy before and play in the same formation at club level.
Finnegan Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Thanks for sharing your extensive experience in how to win a tournament. Probably the most moronic thing you've ever posted on Foxestalk, Webster, you can do better than that. If people aren't giving their opinions on here then I've got absolutely no idea why we're all registered. But, you're right, you're definitely going to clean sweep the Euros without picking on form and merit. Bang on. Ultrarolleyes.gif

I was just chuckling at someone from Wales lecturing English fans on why we can't win when you've only just qualified for your first tournament since God was a lad.
Captain... Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Rashford really? How has he proven himself to be a match winner He ripped Mytjelland to shreds on his debut, he singlehandedly beat Arsenal, scored the goal that won the Manchester Derby, scored the goal to beat Villa, scored a belter to help beat West Ham in the Cup. Considering he has only played a handful of games only 3 United players have scored more than him, he has scored in Europe in some of the biggest games in the premier league and he scored on his international debut. They both started the Australia game, Rashford grabbed his opportunity with both hands, as he has done all season. He made it very very difficult for Hodgson not to take him. Danny, sadly for him, didn't.

He was the least bad when he won MOTM and we all know Hoddle doesn't know his arse from his elbow, the game changed when he was subbed on in that game, but that was because we changed formation. You are right about the formation, if played well it can be very effective, but Mourinho, Van Gaal, Hodgson et al have strangled the life out of that formation by making it a defensive 451, set up to nullify the oppositions 4231, it should have busy players playing in the space between defence and midfield, bombing forward at every opportunity to make it a very attacking formation, and pulling the defence all over the place creating holes to exploit. Instead the 3 are being employed to track full backs and stop the other teams holding midfielders from creating play.
Fox92 Posted 31 May 2016 Posted 31 May 2016 Always the same with England. The FA always give the job to the yes man, players are selected on who they play for, we fail and then it goes on and on and on. Hodgson can sod off. Never been good enough to get the job. Should leave when his defensive tactics fail in France. And if Vardy does play it'll be wide because Hodgson loves playing one up front the ****.
