There was a player from Sport Lisboa that was convicted for being a pedophile, and some player didn't want to play with him in the team so they left and founded Sporting CP while Sport Lisboa merged with Benfica, creating Sport Lisboa e Benfica. the club we know today. Benfica grew as a club by bribing the reffs and was the "peoples club" because it was founded by poor people, while Sporting was founded by a rich man that wanted to fight corruption. Benfica today is the same as it always was. a disgusting club that controls the media and spews bullshit and literally brainwahses their fans and all portuguese with loads of fake news. Sporting is the only club in portugal with real fans. 1/3 of all benfica fans doesn't even know what an offisde is. they just support benfica because its the people's club and don't want to feel left out. Sporting has 3.5 million fans in Portugal while Benfica has "4.5 million" but half of their fans don't even know what the crest looks like. Benfica are the Man Utd and Chelsea of Portugal. Benfica TV is actually pretty good though and surprisingly the least Benfica-biased sports channel.

Yet another mature post, keep them coming. Dont recall even hinting at comparing players just commented on your daft post but I suppose I was expecting too much to think you would understand that. Whilst I agree that Slimani is an upgrade to Ulloa. I do not agree that Ulloa's impact on our title winning season is as limited as you seem to suggest. Sporting fans claim that Slimani is a fan favorite because he 'turns up' when they need him, scoring important goals, which is exactly what Ulloa did for us last season. A crucial winner against Norwich to keep the momentum going, a crucial penalty against West Ham to keep the momentum going and two against Swansea, again to keep the momentum going. Whilst, if not for Ulloa and his goals the season before last, the only 'title' we would have been competing for last season would be the one Newcastle are aiming for this year. You claimed Nugent wasn't good enough for the Championship, which was and still is ridiculous, and funnily enough a point you never reply too when called up on it. For 10 Million pounds we could quite easily of got someone to come in do all of the above and more. We could probably of Got Slimani for that cash at the time, But tbh that's not what I am saying at all, you, yet again, prove you have no ability to read and understand at all bending arguments to suit your own agenda, I have said he has his strengths and has played his part, I call him the donkey because he is slow and has a poor touch, but if you put the ball on his head in the box something will happen more often than not. but he is no vital part of the system, like Danny Simpson who you could swap out for any defensively sound Premeir League right back, you could switch him out with any half decent Prem target man the result last season would of been the same.

Jonaltis Posted 30 August 2016 Posted 30 August 2016 Hi there, Im here just because i saw some guys in benfica fórum saying that they would go to Leicester forum to make Leicester supporters hate Slimani.Slimani is a great guy, i have meet Slimani once in a dinner and he is a great man.Slimani is also a fantastic player. When he came to Sporting nobody new this player, now after some years he his one of the best strikers in the world, he scored 5 goals in tree games to Casillas.Benfica instead, they play with referees, Jonas didnt score any goal to porto or Sporting he only scored to affiliated teams of benfica. Why do you thank he was without job? Those are facts if you need i can show you.If you take us Slimani we will lose one of our stars but you will not regret. BTW: last year he was not the top scorer because Jonas had 7penaltis, search for "Marco Ferreira says that Benfica was helped" and you will know what im talking about.Cheers#LigaVoucher.

If Nugent was good enough for the 'Championship', why did we sign Okazaki and why did Ranieri decide to sell him? He isn't good enough for a side fighting for the championship.
Aleksz Posted 30 August 2016 Posted 30 August 2016 Two european club fans going at it on our forum and some of you are more interested in whether David Nugent was good enough. Okeh.

SCP4Ever Posted 30 August 2016 Posted 30 August 2016 3 minutes ago, Ozwin said: So are Benfica the Autobots or the Decepticons then? It's more like a sports mafia... You see, back in the 80s porto got a new president that wanted to dominate football, and end the power that both lisbon clubs had over sports in Portugal. He did this by gaining control of the ruling bodies, both our FA and the referee board. Together with some very powerful and wealthy porto people, he managed to buy great players, and ensure that, even when they played badly, they still secured the wins, and their rivals lost. this president is now too old - and currently doing more damage than good, but that's their problem - and that left a vacuum, so naturally, benfica's truck-stealing president (that's not a metaphor, that's actually true) decided that he wanted to do the same. So, even though he spent the first years of his tenure clamoring for transparency and reform in our rulling bodies, he's now gone very quiet, positioned key people in key places, so now, anything that goes against his plans is denounced as vile and negative. Here's the thing, they have more supporters here. And that's fine by, more isn't better, better is better, and we are SO MUCH better than them. Because rivalries aside, I can tell when things are right or wrong. And a lot of them clearly don't. But since they have more fans, it's natural that they have supporters in the press, in the FA, in the government. What is NOT normal is that so many of these people kowtow to this new godfather's policies that royally screw everyone else in favour of benfica. But it's the crap country we live in. Just to give you a general idea, a few years back there was an official inquiry into influence peddling in football. Club presidents, namely the porto one, were caught in phone calls to members of the Referee Association, where they are caught deciding which refs should go to which games, plus what sort of rewards (the so called "fruit") they were due. So what you do think happened? If you guessed nothing, with case being "archived", a cleaner word for dismissed, you are correct. I hope this puts our ocean sprawled country in perspective, as well as our euro victory AND our ranking in UEFA. Shitty corrupt country, but we're very good at football. (that's code for pay up, foxes )
SportingCP Posted 30 August 2016 Posted 30 August 2016 Lads, there are reports in Portugal that Sporting might buy Bastian Schweinsteiger so you might just get Adrien.
