I can't believe anyone would use the word arrogance to describe our performance against Iceland.

We looked scared and bereft of confidence if anything,

I guess when Rooney saysthings like  'sometimes the best team doesn't go through' after the Iceland game, they you can't help but think there's a certain arrogance around the England squad.  Which is ok when you're winning.

The arrogance was in our approach off and on the pitch for the first 80 minutes there was no urgency just an attitude that someone would do something and rescue us because "we are England and they are Iceland. Player for player we are better in every department we will win this game in second gear."

Everyone just thought we needed to turn up to win.

Hoping some visionary will come up with an effective way of playing against teams that sit deep and look to counter soon then so we can go back to entertaining football!

Big man up front

Put loads of balls in the box

Ultra high tempo

Play for the 2nd ball

Unleash havoc.

I'm afraid even the surprise appearance of Cheese's T-Rex wouldn't save this mess

To be honest, yeah. That may well be the way it goes. 6-0-4 formation. I'd like to see how it panned out.

Agreed, you need to approach the games like you're losing 1-0 in a cup final with 5 minutes to go. Make sure you have lads at the back that are as strong and fast as possible and it'll be hard to be counter attacked against.

You have an Andy Carroll type and a quick forward either side of him looking for knock downs. If they try and step up to prevent balls pumped into the box then you have your little speedsters.

Either way, teams facing a counter attacking team need to be way more direct with their play.

Nothing wrong with the format. The smaller teams the most interesting bit of the tournament.

Worst teams to watch were Portugal and England and they'd have qualified anyway.

Equally, the quarters, semis and final had shit games just as much as the groups.

The format wasn't the problem - defensive football was. Not because people were scared of losing but just because it's becoming vogue at the minute.

Might be a slightly abstract thought but I actually think LCFC are partly to blame. We've helped perpetuate an idea in football that's been building for the last couple of years.

Football goes in cycles. Possession football was the thing, you can blame Pep and Barca for that, so naturally counter attacking defensive football rises to beat it.

Dortmund, Atletico, Leicester, Chelsea to an extent, we've all popularised rigid pressing and defensive football with a counter attacking element.

It's a way for crap teams like Portugal, Northern Ireland, ROI, Iceland, Wales and so on to be successful without needing great players. Leicester have taught everyone that having good group cohesion and defensive discipline and organisation can compensate for talent.

As have Atletico. As did Dortmund.

Problem is, when everyone starts doing it to each other..... zzzzz.

Wales Belgium was exciting because it was a possession team against a defensive counter team. Likewise Croatia Spain and Italy Spain.

But most of the tournament was crap, well organised teams playing each other.

That's not "the format", it's just football in 2016.

Pretty dull and the format didn't help for me. Too much playing for draws. Makes me appreciate our approach been more.

On par with Italia 90 as the most boring tournament. Even had Ronny crying like Gazza.

Can't remember the details, but I seem to remember that being a fantastic tournament. Pavarotti, Nessun Dorma...

Gianna Nannini.

Everything but the football was great about Italia '90.

Ok, I'll give you Valderrama, Robert Prosinecki, Higuita and Roger Milla.

I thought he made some fair points. Not everything needs to be condensed to 140 characters!
