Babylon Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Please please please can we win the FA Cup. No matter what everyone on here says, it's not OK that we've never won it. It would complete the best period in the club's history. Absolutely... other than staying up that cup has to be priority. Now we'd like to presume we have enough to stay up, so focus should be on that.
tsintskaro Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 move on he was not talking about cup priority is pl,first 40 points, then top half, champions league and maybe another tropy and getting in top for is needed not for revenue, but developing as better club with these new managers and players it will be harder to play on high level and being in top means you are doing it right

Viva Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Absolutely... other than staying up that cup has to be priority. Now we'd like to presume we have enough to stay up, so focus should be on that. In the last few years teams like Portsmouth, Cardiff, Stoke, Wigan, Hull, Palace and Villa have all made the FA Cup final. It is not as good as it used to be. There is no way I would prioritise this over the league and potentially staying up in the top 4, fighting for titles and growing as a club.
Webbo Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Finishing 4th should have been seen as a triumph at the start of last season, not so much now. Winning the cup will go down in history, nobody remembers 4th place.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 Jesus the apathy on here is frightening. You know if we got to the Semi final the tickets threads would be lighting up with people who previously declared that they weren't bothered, looking for references Finishing 4th should have been seen as a triumph at the start of last season, not so much now. Winning the cup will go down in history, nobody remembers 4th place. This basically.
BrummieFOX Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 It's a little embarrassing that the manager has to reiterate this at all. "We'd like to win some silverware." The literal point of football. It's about winning stuff. Unbelievable that people would take 4th over an FA Cup win.
foxinsocks Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 We want to secure cl pkace minimum. I only want the fa cup if wewin the pl. Our priority must be pl .... and second the cl By acheiving cl participation our recruitment will be easier and our boys will gain cl exp

An FA Cup win and 16th position gives us a trophy and ends the ride that we are on at the minute. Fourth place or higher again could take us to another level where an FA Cup might well come further down the line, along with other trophies.

Fourth place or higher again could take us to another level where an FA Cup might well come further down the line, along with other trophies. It wouldn't end anything. What is wrong with you? Do you realise we pulled off the most unlikely sporting success ever? There is a reason why it was so unlikely. Look at Wolfsburg they were a nothing club that won the league from nowhere (not quite as dramatic as we did) 2 seasons later they were nearly relegated, now they are finishing second and nearly getting through to CL semi final. Next season anything could happen and any sort of success in any competition will keep this ride going, winning the FA Cup is a trophy, and a way into Europe, that is a successful season. Ask Arsenal fans what they celebrated more consecutive fourth places, or consecutive FA Cup wins.

Do you seriously think if we come 16th next season, the following season we will challenge again for the top four or the title? No is the answer. That would be the end of our run. If you are happy with that, then that's great for you. You can't compare us to any other team. We are in a unique situation. I want to be up there challenging for titles as long as we can. That doesn't mean I wouldn't be delighted winning an FA Cup.
AyewJoking Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 I'm never going to tell my future grandchildren about the time we consolidated our status as a financial powerhouse and global brand by finishing fvcking fourth. on the other hand, portsmouth fans can tell their grand children about when they won the fa cup, whilst watching them play at the local rec.
AyewJoking Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 i'm not done yet, if the fa cup means nothing to a lot of people right now, what are the chances your grand children are going to want to hear about it??
Webbo Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 on the other hand, portsmouth fans can tell their grand children about when they won the fa cup, whilst watching them play at the local rec. Nobody can take those memories or the sense of pride they felt from them. People are talking as if we can choose. We might be knocked out of all the cups in the first round and still be relegated.

A) Do you seriously think if we put out a strong team in the FA Cup we will finish 16th and if we don't we will challenge for the title? B) We were nearly relegated then won the league. Finishing 16th will not mean anything come the following season.

B) We were nearly relegated then won the league. Finishing 16th will not mean anything come the following season. A) I think that if we put out a strong team in the FA Cup, Champions League, League Cup and league, our league position will suffer. Most managers of the big clubs obviously think the same, which is why they don't do it. I'm not saying we will definitely challenge for the title, but I do believe we are capable of putting up a good challenge. I said 16th place to give an example to people that want us to win the FA Cup over everything else. B) If you think that then you need to take your head out of the clouds. We are not going from relegation fighters to champions again. These things don't come round twice in a lifetime.
Voll Blau Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 on the other hand, portsmouth fans can tell their grand children about when they won the fa cup, whilst watching them play at the local rec. I doubt that matters a jot to them. Had the privilege of chatting to a Wigan fan the other year who had watched his team since the Cheshire League days in the 60s. They could go back to that level now and he'd still be bursting with pride to tell anyone about the day his team won the Cup at Wembley. Anyway, as you consider it to be losing credibility year-on-year I'll have your ticket to the final if that's OK?

Captain... Posted 15 July 2016 Posted 15 July 2016 The league cup isn't that fashionable anymore but I bet people still tell their kids about their days out at Wembley. I still talk about Heskey's header (and subsequent scramble) at Wembley and Claridge's goal at Hillsborough not so much Elliot's goals against Tranmere, but that first league cup win in my lifetime was amazing. The first FA Cup win will be even more so.
