Mezeker Posted 8 August 2016 Author Posted 8 August 2016 I am really not a fan of how we have looked to drastically improve the squad while the quality of our starting eleven is below that of last year. Now Perez is linked, I would gladly have in in the squad but we really should be making signings are set to be starters week in week out.
lgfualol Posted 8 August 2016 Posted 8 August 2016 Mahrez thread is locked but I just saw some potentially bullshit chelsea source suggest Mahrez, his agent and Conte were spotted in the same hotel in London. So yes if he ****s off all snakey
murphy Posted 8 August 2016 Posted 8 August 2016 Trouble is it has all been a bit underwhelming for me. We have our best ever chance of attracting real top notch players, we have the money and now we have the prestige. Would have been happy if we could have brought in one real top drawer player. Instead we've lost one.
Mad Dog Posted 8 August 2016 Posted 8 August 2016 Clearly we've improved the squad hugely - but we've not improved the first XI. This seems in line with what I guess the clubs philosophy and hopes are for the coming seasons; become an established premier league squad top 10 squad, where relegation is an after thought every season (Stoke, Everton) and then try to build on that way down the line. Could have gone balls out with a few big money signings but then if it hadn't worked, we could find ourselves back where we started, in the Champo with a huge wage bill and aging players, having to start again. I'm happy with the approach we've taken, even if the romantic in me wanted us to go for it.

LCCFox96 Posted 11 August 2016 Posted 11 August 2016 Think we've made big steps in the right direction. Another CB - especially if Hernandez has been brought in primarily as RB option - wouldn't go amiss. A ST/attacking option is an absolute must though.
Gazza M Posted 11 August 2016 Posted 11 August 2016 A big no from me. We need a Rb, cb and a physical striker.

We have Huth, Morgan, Hernandez, Was & Moore as 5th choice if needed. Was & Hernandez seemed to form a good relationship against barca in that second half. When Was retires then yes another centre back is needed but for now I think we're okay. I do think 3 more are needed though. A right back, a centre mid & another attacking option. For me Peres, Parades & Barbosa.
Guest Col city fan Posted 11 August 2016 Posted 11 August 2016 I'm surprised we haven't pushed the boat out a little (yet). With selling Ngolo, we've about broken even on the incoming lads I think? Thus net spend of about zero isn't it? I think we are looking a bit thin in some areas and we still haven't made that signing to really excite. I'd love to see a real quality midfield creative man

As for Moore, he is not prem quality in my opinion. I would get Keane in from Burnley. Left footer and knows the club already.
cc_star Posted 11 August 2016 Posted 11 August 2016 Nope, we need a RB & a CB of the class of Keane or better. I think we may need a CM, we'll have to see how that plays out in competitive matches Then, if Schlupp & Ulloa leave they will need replacing too

Great Boos Up Posted 11 August 2016 Posted 11 August 2016 We keep smashing our own transfer record and are linked with players that we only would have dreamt about for the last few decades. It's still all a bit surreal for me and half of me thinks I'm billy big balls and the other half prays we keep what we still have.

gurru991 Posted 11 August 2016 Posted 11 August 2016 I would take Keane at 20. We will need secondary coverage & Keane is a perfect fit

Moore is a top quality championship centre back, as 5th choice I would be more than happy with that. Was is capable for one more season. The season after that we should recruit but for now its not a necessary.
STUHILL Posted 12 August 2016 Posted 12 August 2016 I would prefer we bought TWO more players but only if no one else leaves. RB still bothers me. Simpson was incredible last year but I still feel we need at least a capable, genuine RB understudy, even if just a youngster. Amartey I would like to see concentrate on playing CM and Hernandez as a CB. CB is an interesting one. Huth and Morgan will likely start every league match if both fit and play as they did last year. We also have Hernandez and Benny seems to be back in training. Would really like Keane here, as be great to have a young, talented, English CB, but I think he would struggle to play each week for us and so think it would be a bad move for him in this window personally. Think we should try sign him next summer, when Huth/Morgan are likely to be showing signs of age, and Keane can nail a starting place. CM is a signing I think we need. As much as I like King, I just don't see him as a starter. At the moment I think we should play Drinky and Mendy, but I would like to see us sign a real battler in the middle. Amartey could be the answer but maybe too early for him and would like someone more experienced and proven. James should go on loan to derby for a year. ST - Would personally like an upgrade on Ulloa. I think he is great and would be happy with his bit-part role again, but when we have strikers like Slimani available, I can't help but think selling Ulloa and having him, could be a great bit of business. Will be concerned if we don't sign anyone but if our back 4 stays fit and plays like they did last year, and Mendy turns out to be another gem of a midfielder, then we will be OK.
cc_star Posted 12 August 2016 Posted 12 August 2016 I'm concerned about CM I'm concerned that to play a 2 man midfield at this level they've got to be supermen, Kante & Drinkwater were... Drinkwater still is Mendy may well be, but he looks to drop to deep... soooo deep, that at times he's splitting a CB pairing that needs to be close for our system to work He also seems to like a 5-yard backward pass which is great for possession football, but completely nullifies the point of a fast counter-attacking style I suppose we can only see how things settle down, but I think a box-to-box CM is a must have if we are to get success in the same way again As it stands, I think we've got midfielder players to change either our system or style, but not to excel in the same counter-attacking way in a 4411 Simpson Morgan Huth Fuchs Mendy King Mahrez Drinkwater Gray Vardy/Musa Not saying we should or will change, just that i'm not convinced all is well with 442/441 and no Kante Also, a specialist RB as back-up to Simpson - If the dev squad can't supply one, we need to buy one.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 12 August 2016 Posted 12 August 2016 (Recognised) RB, and a ST. Possibly another centre back depending on the situations of Benalouane & Moore. We've still got Wasilewski though.
Guest Posted 12 August 2016 Posted 12 August 2016 I'm not concerned about CM. Wev'e brought in Mendy who hasn't yet had a chance to get acclimatised. We got James who has talent, we've got Amartey with potential and I don't know where they are planning on playing Kapustka. I'm happy to see how things go until at least the January window for CM. I'd like Slimani or another striker who adds something different. I'd be happy to upgrade Okazaki at 10 with someone with a similar work ethic but a little more skill, I'd like a couple of younger CBs to be ready for the end of Huth and Wes but most of all I'd like a young talented RB to challenge and then replace Simpson.
