I'm glad someone got in there before me.

I actually don't have a problem with the Cllrs original letter in its entirety.

We're all football fans, premier league football fans, we're all pretty desensitized to the money in the sport. Talk to anyone that doesn't like the game, though, and the first thing they rail on is the money.

It is pretty disgusting if we're honest.

Most of the residential areas in the city limits are pretty ****ing divey, most of you think the city is a shithole and you get an article plastered across the local rag that a sports team full of millionaires just got a free super car each.

If you're not a sports fan, that's probably going to wind you up.

So why don't we all put our money in one pot and distribute it evenly to everyone??

Thats basically what you are saying. Because where do you draw the line?

If our owners are supposed to put the car money into the community instead, then so should Next. Then what about the local businessman who earns £3m. Should he distribute his wealth too?

Lets forget the vast amount of tax these people pay to keep the poor alive, let's take even more off them.

You mister are looking no further than the end of your nose.

The owners have every right to award their staff how they see fit, I just think it was a bit much to line them all up outside the stadium. I can see how people might be offended by this, we don't need reminding of the haves and have nots and unfortunately I think this has retracted from the good things they've done elsewhere.

There's rather expensive cars easily worth £1m (or more) lined up outside the stadium almost week in, week out. Why haven't we had the same discussion there?

Well. That's definitely putting two and two together and getting eighteen.

So what would you propose then?

I am am saying the councillor is wrong, the club have brought vast amounts of money into the City, they have given millions to charity.

So with you saying the council guy has a point, what do you suggest happens?

I'm saying I understand where he's coming from, that's a long way from calling for wealth redistribution.

I would suggest the council  talk to the club and develop a strategy that benefits both. One of the problems the club faces is that Leicester isn't a glamourous city so using the wealth of the clubs and the owners to develop high end facilities around the king power stadium would boost the city and the club

If you look at what QPR and Brentford are doing something along those lines could attract interest and finance to the club and the city, this needs to be collaborative though and as I've said the way the Councillor's comments have been reported they seem bitter and antagonistic.

If he has such little grasp of politics that he thinks he can solve urban deprivation by singling out one business (which has already done a great deal for the local community) then he should really consider another career

He's a middle aged councillor, not an up and coming career politician and future cabinet minister.

Webbo is right to an extent, he is just giving some populist rhetoric. A lot of people don't like football and a lot of people don't exactly want to see a bunch of footballers getting free super cars plastered over their local rag.

I doubt he's expecting much to come out of a few quotes and we're probably giving it more attention than its worth TBH.

I did consider saying 'hobby' but I didn't want to appear flippant.

I do see the argument about footballers wages, money, cars etc... but if you really want to push the owners for money, which, as people who are doing a number of things for the community already, I think is a bad idea, then ask for help with footballing academies or sports sponsorship or even promoting the benefits of environmental cars across the city.

The thing that concerns me more is that to even be considering the above shows a real lack of understanding on where and how to solve the problem of poverty in the city and I genuinely hope Cllr Unsworth just wanted 5 minutes of fame rather than seeing this as a viable solution.

Seriously considering making that my new signature.

what an absolute idiot, the owners have been fantastic not only to the club and the fans but to the whole city and have more adulation than the councilor could only dream of

So typically Labour it's almost a parody, wanted nothing to do with it was in trouble and dying but then demands some money from the wealth created when it goes right to go and toss around. In reality people like him would drive these guys away if they could, they hate anyone with any riches and would rather everyone had absolutely nothing so we were all equal than bring any happiness to many with a bit of inequality.

Most people must agree as unlike many parts of the country apart from London  labour are still flavour of the month  in Leicester

Joking aside, I've not caught a bus in years.

Surely Leicester doesn't have pocked areas where people can't afford to hop on and go into town?

How much is the the bloody bus fare, £300 each way? Or £250 return?
