What current footballers would make good managers someday?

obviously from our squad if i were a betting man i'd have top dollar on andy king. basically runs our joint doesn't he, captained us when he was about 6 and seems like everyone's best mate.

in fact if in about 15 years time he isn't our manager i'm kicking off. unless he's still coming on as a sub with 20 to go.

Esteban Cambiassoooooo

There's a shock...

Just off the cuff...Milner always seems a level headed bloke. Dunno about his influence in the dressing room though?

John Terry could go into management, though I guess he's bound for punditry.

Wooney I suppose...though hearing him talk, fook knows how he's ever made a captain, let alone would make a manager?

There aren't any obvious stand-outs really? However, I guess plenty of them are taking their coaching badges or plan to.

Kompany I think will go into punditry.

Theo Walcott just seems too bloody nice.

From the Premier League, id look at Per Mertesacker, Zlatan, Kompany as definite management potential.

Wouldnt put it past someone like Flamini, or even a Troy Deeney type character.

From overseas, Obvious people like Xabi Alonso, Lahm, Buffon, Pirlo, Iniesta, Xavi

A few, some more successfully than others

Zenga would be the most obvious one around at the moment, Dino Zoff spent quite a bit of time in management, our champions league group has two teams managed bu experienced goalkeepers in Michael Preudhomme and Nuno Espirito Santo managing Bruge and Porto.

Some ex goalkeeper managers were abysmal though. Brian Gunn lasted one game at Norwich?

Nigel Adkins was a goalkeeper before becoming a physio and then a coach.

Most topline players don't need the money anymore. They may think they want to manage but are they hungry enough to do the hard yards learning their trade, coaching the youth team, setting out the cones in training? They don't fear the sack because they don't need the job.

I think most managers in the future will be from the lower leagues like Eddie Howe.

They don't coach the youth team or set out the cones in training do they?

And many won't have to 'earn their trade'. See Neville as an example. Gigs will get a good job before long too if he wants it.

And most managers come from the continent, not the lower leagues.

Well the question was about what current players will make good managers. I can't imagine many top players in our league will make top managers.

I agree Webbo. Can't see many of them going down the management route at all to be honest. But not because they'll have to ply their trade in the lower league's.  But because financially they just won't need to.

Very few of todays good managers had a stellar playing career.  It doesnt stop players doing their badges.  . . But will shearer or neville ever make the cut (i would take neville over shearer... but the best bet will be for neither)

Stam is a possibility.... yet there are so few.  I believe it is because the players are at the centre of those around them during their playing career..   they dont seem to be able to ubderstand and hense to manage others

Gianluigi Buffon

Giorgio Chiellini

Alessandro Di Natale

Manuel Neuer

Alexis Sanchez

Sergio Busquets

Thomas Müller

Luka Modric

Javier Mascherano

Arturo Vidal

Ivan Rakitic

Cesc Fabregas

Jerôme Boateng

Nemanja Matic

to name a few.

And Totti will one day take over at AS Roma, the one-club wonder.

Not Joey Barton, he'd do a Pearson and cracked under pressure if situations are poor and damage his reputation even further.
