Players not ready

Recommended Posts

This is a genine question and no a bash at Claudio (or the premier league)

why do teams have so many players who are 'not ready' and how does someone like Claudio judge that his players are ready

We have:

Chillwell

Gray

Kaputska

all that are not ready yet. i'm not entirely sure what that means.

Gray - when he has come on has looked fairly strong - some issues with not finishing, but in comparrison to what some of the first team are currently doing is on par.

Kaputska - has played international football and looks amazing in videos

Chillwell - probably not a first choice because of Fuchs and does seem like he needs some more dev

I remember last season there was a statement that Marcus Rashford was not ready and he stormed the team. Sometimes I just don't get it. If anyone could shed any light on managers decisions or opinions on if they believe these are wrong

Only 3 in the squad is hardly "so many".

But anyway, I'm surprised Gray is in that category as he was playing every week with Birmingham. Maybe CR wants him to bulk up a bit but the times he has come on shows that he's very much there.

Kaputska has been playing in a different league and is still young. I know he plays with Poland international team but still premier league is a whole different kettle of fish.

kind of goes for Chilwell also. Although he's an academy player who is hopefully up and coming.

If Vardy, King, Amartey, Huth & Zieler is ready... I'll take not ready please...

"He's too young" is a poor excuse. If you're good enough then you're old enough and ready. A 17-year old scored last night for Liverpool.

I don't get the 'Gray needs to bulk up'. He doesn't even look lightweight and there's been a fair few occasions where he beat the full back and had to hold him off to get the cross in. I mean just look at Mahrez's stature.

I think because we are a team that needs to defend from the front and involve everyone when we haven't  got the ball then players like Musa, Gray and Kaputska need educating on their need to defend  more when they haven't  got the ball something they've  probably not  been asked to do at their previous clubs. I'm fairly sure this was part of Mahrez's induction into the team and why it took some time.

Obviously much easier to do if the 1st team squad are winning games at a canter.

these players need game time and just need good management, if you are good enough then it shouldn't matter how old you are in fact younger players play without fear or restraint which is good for forward attacking players like gray but maybe not so much for defenders like chillwell as in defence you cannot be rash you have to be disciplined

And a 19yo full international can't get on our bench.

Is it the player is not ready or the manager has no bollox?

I suspect Chilwell's injury came at a bad time. He only returned to training last week having been on the sidelines for a month, and you imagine he would have had a game or two by now, not because Fuchs is anything other than a superb player, but he could do with a rest every now and again. hope he is fit to play in Porto next week, because if he plays well, he gets another game perhaps.

Gray looked super when he came on to help close out games in the spring, but then he was part of a dominant team. This season he has come on and look somewhat frantic, almost too keen to impress. However I think his moment is coming, not least because Mahrez will likely miss 4 games for AFCON from January 10th. Again he has to start in Porto, and if he does well, he can keep the shirt.

For me Porto away becomes vital for our fringe players. Let's say Hamer plays and has a blinder, surely he then has a chance of replacing RRZ until Kasper is fit. My team for Porto would look something like this:

Hamer

Simpson

Hernandez

Wasilewski

Chilwell

Gray

Mendy - if fit

James - if fit

Kaputska

Musa

Ulloa

with a number of those players having the play in a manner which asks Claudio 'dare you leave me out now'?

Don't you think it's Claudio's way of saying "not good enough to get in the team...?" Using their exclusion to motivate them to develop. Whereas he could say they're not good enough and be inundated with transfer requests. And there is a difference between being a good player and being switched on for 90+ mins, making good decisions when your skill takes you into great positions etc I think too much is being made of the Kapustka situation - winger is easily the most competitive position in the squad - in fact I'm surprised we signed him. Maybe he was insurance against Mahrez moving on with Gray stepping up and K on the bench. Then Mahrez stayed....

BTW I don't think Gray is at all in the same category - he'll be vital if and when Mahrez goes to African Cup and I assume K will be on the bench then.

Chilwell would be in that category - he got done badly in one of the Spurs home matches last season and he has a lot of Premier game nouse to gain...

Give it a rest FFS.

Ranieri handed debuts to some of the best players to actually play the game, in England and in France etc.

He isn't scared of playing youngsters, we wouldn't buy them otherwise.

I trust the judgement of Ranieri when it comes to young talent over any conspiracy theorists on here.

If you don't like what I put don't read it or use the ignore button.

What he's done in the past has little bearing on what he does for us. He used to be the tinker man he isn't now.

Yes he gave us our greatest ever season Andi thank him for that. But I don't have to agree with everything he does.

He might be lightweight but I imagine he can control a football better than Musa....

I would be very disappointed if that was the team, putting Chilwell, Kaputska and Hernandez in alongside players that are nowhere near the first team doesn't allow you to judge their readiness for the first team.

That team will most likely get hammered, although Hamer may look good as shot after shot rains down on him.

Hamer

Simpson

Hernandez

Morgan

Chilwell

Gray

Drinkwater - back from 3 game ban will be fit and raring to go

???? -  Mendy if fit, Kaputska if he will ever play as a CM, James if getting anywhere near back to form

Albrighton

Okazaki

Slimani

Or  switch to a 433, 4231, 343 or whatever CR fancies, just don't send out a  completely second string side like we are playing Shrewsbury in the league cup.

You're right about playing Drinky, I forgot he could play in Porto, and it would be a good warm up game for him prior to a return against Bournemouth. I'd really want to give Huth and Morgan a rest though. We shall see, but the point stands that the game gives fringe players a really good chance to demand selection in Prem games

The game in Porto is already next wednesday. 3 days before the ManCity match.

If we put that squad out to face Porto we won't be in the last 16 draw.

Porto and Copenhagen still have second place to play for. We will get away with a couple of changes. But six players that have played about a game in in total for us.

UEFA will have our pants down big time. Had it been bruges we perhaps could have.

Disappointments, in terms of youngsters, have been Schlupp (been here a while now, so moreorless should be classified as experienced with how we play; but so hit and miss you don't know what to expect from him frustratingly) and Kaputska for refusing to do what he's been told by qualified staff (stinks of an attitude that shouldn't deserve to be considered to be chosen in the match day squad).

James most fans know he's been through a tough time with injuries but also know they want him back as he's played consistently well before.

Don’t understand why Mendy is being moaned at for being sidelined; he's likely to be p*ssed off himself as he wants to return and establish himself in the team - I think he will have an important role to play this season but appears a risk with his injury record.

Amartey is slowly getting better and reading the game more.

Perhaps this season is all about learning the league and gaining experience, and from next season onwards can become the spine of the team in midfield. :dunno: He's one I think will turn out for the best some point in the future.

Quite right. It's the excuse used for Amartey all the time.

Personally, I think the club has simply been complacent over the summer.

Last season was a marvel. It's now clear (although to some of us it always was clear) that we lost the biggest driving force behind this astounding achievement..Kante.

He's not been replaced with anyone who looks anywhere near as good.

We have relied on the ageing Huth and Morgan to continue to be solid and have kept on with Albrighton. Even the full backs haven't been supplemented with quality, younger versions.

It's almost as if the owners and Claudio just thought the massive success would somehow continue....without having to do a great deal.

What we have done is to fill the squad with forwards, whilst having no one new to supply them.

What do you do? Give the young uns a real go? Get Kapustka in, Gray in, Chilwell, continue with Amartey....or not? I'm unsure whether ANY of them look good enough at present to be commanding a regular spot in the first team.

Is that true? You're not allowed to play a weakened team? Not doubting your claim, but just wondering if you know for certain?
