lcfcrinaldi Posted 22 January 2017 Posted 22 January 2017 Morgan wont be stripped of the captaincy before the end of the season. But I'm more concerned about who we will have as captain after that. I don't see Drinky or Kasper sticking around after this season, of which they would be the only people that would be capable of taking it up. ... But even then, I don't think they would be good captains.
Thracian Posted 22 January 2017 Posted 22 January 2017 The first job necessary is to make our players feel like world beaters again. And that's down to managers and coaches.
old koppite Posted 22 January 2017 Posted 22 January 2017 Just rest him for a bit- played too many games- he might still have something left when gets his confidence back. i don't understand what's happened to DD- we were moaning 6 months ago that he should be first choice in the England midfield!

Has major defiencies, regularly downs tools on us and is thick as pig shit. The fact people still remember Walsh when he only ever had one good top flight season (96-97) before being phased out says that Wes Morgan will of course be remembered for the same thing. Walsh was a second division player who had a great top flight season, some great second tier seasons and also plenty of bad seasons. Morgan was a better second division defender and his one good season in the PL far exceeds that of just about any Leicester defender. It's all just nostalgia goggles, in 20 years time people will remember Morgan as one of the all-time greats in the same way they do Walsh - even though he let us down on countless occasions and wasn't really very good in the top flight besides one season. People can see the bad in the present but they only tend to remember the good about players from 20 years ago. I remember a Steve Walsh who was piss poor for about his first 5 years here during the Pleat years, then turned good under Brian Little, but couldn't get in the team in the Prem campaign under Little/McGhee, then finally showed he could do it in the top flight in 96/97 before beginning to look over the hill the following season or two and players like Elliott, Sinclair and Taggart all moved ahead of him in the pecking order.
cruzFOX Posted 22 January 2017 Posted 22 January 2017 I wonder if we as fans should shoulder a little of the blame? didnt we all ask these same players to give us 1 more magical season since we qualified for Europe's marque tournament? I feel guilty that my heart said players like morgan and huth can still perform for one more season but deep down my mind always told me that it we were lucky to get one great season. These guys have been around the block a too many times and the engine is just not there anymore. They are burnt out, fatigued and frustrated that they simply can't keep up with the pace and intensity of this season. I do wish they could be honest with the manager and say we are struggling and need help. I'm in agreement with those of you who say pass the captaincy to drinkwater in the hope it lights a fire under his ass and maybe spark the rest of the team and if that doesnt work then give it to Kasper and leave it there.
foxfanazer Posted 23 January 2017 Posted 23 January 2017 Yep he's done I'm afraid. It's horrible to see because he's been a fantastic player for this club. He looks painfully exposed and I can'tsee him turning it around

Morgan's in his 30s and has been playing non-stop for the last few years. If you can't tell that's the problem, then I don't know what to tell you. Oh my heart bleeds for him poor soul, he's in his 30s and has been playing football non stop for a few years, maybe he needs a rest and should get a normal job like the rest of us, let's see where his motivation is then.
RonnieTodger Posted 23 January 2017 Posted 23 January 2017 This is the worst thing about this season. The back 4 have been woeful. They can all (perhaps with the exception of Fuchs) be as shit as they like and keep their place in the team because we have no-one ready to step in. The one defender we did sign this season is leaving. What a colossal mess.

Perhaps, but not for yesterday, it was utterly inexcusable that performance. Getting bossed for 45 minutes Chelsea or Man U and conceding a few goals I can take as long as we show some fight or quality at some point, no disrespect to Southampton as they're decent outfit who themselves have under performed this season but we made a team that has struggled for goals at home for months look like Bareclona, the thing is they didn't even play particularly well we were just that dog rough they were able to blow us away without really getting out of third gear. Now we can try and dress this up anyway we want but you don't get THAT bad in a matter of months. To focus solely on the bloke the thread (I could sit here all day slating that team and Claudio for the fcking Diamond) is about he was an absolute train wreck on Sunday, gave the penalty away, nowhere for the goals albeit the first one was most certainly not his job, and every time he got the ball, smash, smash, smash, we are playing a fcking diamond Westley, we need to hold the ball, he looked every bit the lower end Championship player we bought off Forest, awful, actually one of the worst performances I've seen from him in a Leicester shirt. I am hoping we get a reaction, unlike most people on this board I don't think we've been that bad this season on the whole and these players still have the ability to keep us up and perhaps provide a bit of cup magic before the season is out, but yesterday was an absolute abomination and if we play like that we will lose to Derby, we will get absolutely humiliated by Sevilla, and we will go down, because Swansea are live and kicking, Sunderland have a habit of getting out of trouble late in the day, and Sam the savior is going to get that Palace side making a fist of it sooner or later. It has to be better than that,
Ric Flair Posted 23 January 2017 Posted 23 January 2017 Morgan only became even remotely good enough at this level once Huth came in and marshalled the defence. Every time he's been missing from a game, Morgan has been all over the place. Sadly, Huth is struggling to be the force he was the previous 2 years and Morgan is now back to his poor self. He's a championship defender and he's sat on about £70,000 a week for the next 4 years. Incredible and probably at the core of our worst problem. If he isn't dropped and replaced then we will really struggle this season and the next however many he plays at this level.
Dan Posted 23 January 2017 Posted 23 January 2017 The entire defence is awfully out of form at the minute.

And yet the only change that Ranieri will or is able to make is to bring Chilwell in for Fuchs. Simpson is dog mess, as is Wes Morgan. Huth is worryingly looking to be declining rapidly but where are the alternatives. There is no competition for places and essentially they can do and play however they want. Ranieri makes changes all the while, but after a defensive display like that yesterday it'll still be the same slobs at the back in the next game.
Thracian Posted 23 January 2017 Posted 23 January 2017 I don't buy this slating of our centre-backs. Our failings are collective and down to countless different things related to team selection, tactics, proper preparation and effective personal and inter-personal motivation. All these things are linked and I'm damned sure that players who last year helped us win the Premiership by a distance aren't suddenly awful. Take Morgan. He's been chastised due to deflections rather than being praised for actually trying to get his body in the way of shots which probably should have been prevented. Where's the criticism of our central midfielders for letting opponents queue up with time and space just outside our penalty box. Huth and Morgan can't be dealing with them as well as a couple of strikers heading for the six-yard box. No I'm not for a moment suggesting they're blameless but they're always in the heat of battle doing their best when too many others are nowhere to be seen even in the role they're supposed to play, never mind anything extra. I even wonder if some of our players know what's required. Is there a language or culture problem. I don't know but wouldn't be surprised. What I do know is there's a 100 problems and more that need to be addressed right now. Cos we're a shambles and it's reflected among the players' demeanour. Their's an air of utter frustration and it needs to be ended.
