Thought they were a decent top tier side They made the classic mistake most teams make when they drop down to the 2nd division: Keeping most of their squad together from the previous year and bringing in a lot of older players on long-term contracts. Teams that drop down to 1B really believe that they can win the league with their squad that just relegated. This just isn't the case. If you're not good enough for the 1st division, you won't win the 2nd division either. On top of that, they bring in older players who have a lot of experience, but really aren't good enough anymore to carry a team. These players mostly demand long-term contracts for a lot of money. We made the same mistake by signing older players like Julien Gorius and Koen Persoons believing they would guide us to a championship. Luckily we got rid of them this summer because their contracts ran out. On top of that, they're in financial turmoil. They even have a transfer ban at the moment because of this. Their previous owner, who sold the club this summer, was known for spending lots and lots of money. He managed to hire and fire 27 managers during his 25 years as president of the club and signing players for way to much money. For example, when OHL won the 2nd division in 2011 we had a great striker by the name of Hamdi Harbaoui. During the summer of 2011 there were a lot of clubs interested in signing him, including Lokeren. After meeting with Lokeren the owner asked Harbaoui to walk him to his car. When they came to his car, the owner opened the trunk and in it was a suitcase with 1 million euros in cash. This "signing bonus" convinced Harbaoui to sign with Lokeren. Pelotas Posted 13 January 2020 Share Posted 13 January 2020 Well well interesting weekend, all teams except Lokeren still in it to win the second period. Updated the outcome if the current standings were final: Division 1B Promotional Playoffs: between winner of 1st period (OH Leuven) and winner of 2nd period (Beerschot), OH Leuven to host the return match by virtue of having scored most points combined over both periods (38pts vs 29pts). Winner will play in 1A next season, but after the promotional play-offs, both teams will take part in play PO2 this season. Playoff 2 (Europa League Playoffs): OH Leuven, Virton, Westerlo, Union SG, Beerschot and Lommel qualify by virtue of finishing top 6 overall (period 1 + period 2). Virtual groups: group A: Zulte Waregem, Oostende, Waasland-Beveren, Lommel group B: Genk, Eupen, Cercle Brugge, Beerschot group C: Anderlecht, Kortrijk, OH Leuven, Union SG group D: Excel Mouscron, Sint-Truiden, Virton, Westerlo 4 group winners play home & away semi finals (A vs C & B vs D) and final with highest league finisher always hosting the return match. Final winner plays 4th place finisher of playoff 1 (or 5th in case one of top four wins the cup, in this case if Antwerp or Club Brugge win the cup and finish top 4) for final European ticket in single match at stadium of highest league finisher = PO1 team. Playoff 3 (Relegation Playoffs): bottom two teams in the overall 1B standings, Roeselare and Lokeren, take part in a best-of-five playoff. As Roeselare (21pts) finished ahead of Lokeren (18pts), they start with home advantage and receive a three point head start. 1
Pelotas Posted 19 January 2020 Share Posted 19 January 2020 (edited) OH Leuven could and should have become joint leader in the second period but despite a promising start they went down to Westerlo. More importantly, both Virton and Westerlo are now ahead of OHL in the overall standings which determine home advantage in the promption playoffs. So they need to hope another team (Beerschot, Lommel?) wins the second period to keep home advantage... or still win the second period themselves of course. Anyway, after the current matchday if these were the final standings: Division 1B Promotional Playoffs: between winner of 1st period (OH Leuven) and winner of 2nd period (Westerlo), Westerlo to host the return match by virtue of having scored most points combined over both periods (39pts vs 83pts). Winner will play in 1A next season, but after the promotional play-offs, both teams will take part in play PO2 this season. Playoff 2 (Europa League Playoffs): Virton, Westerlo, OH Leuven, Union SG, Beerschot and Lommel qualify by virtue of finishing top 6 overall (period 1 + period 2). Virtual groups: group A: Mechelen, Waasland-Beveren, Oostende, Lommel group B: Zulte Waregem, Eupen, Cercle Brugge, Beerschot group C: Anderlecht, Kortrijk, Virton, Union SG group D: Excel Mouscron, Sint-Truiden, Westerlo, OH Leuven 4 group winners play home & away semi finals (A vs C & B vs D) and final with highest league finisher always hosting the return match. Bonanza Posted 22 January 2020 Share Posted 22 January 2020 Tristan Borges (21, Canada) has signed a 2,5-year deal with our club. He can play as a CAM and left winger, but he prefers to play as a right winger. Borges previously played for Forge FC in the Canadian Premier League, where he won the league. His 13 goals were enough to become the league's topscorer. He was also named "player of the year" and "best young player of the year". On January 11th 2020 Tristan got his first cap for Canada. We really needed a new winger! We only have got 3 guys who can play as wingers, with 1 just returning after an injury. I'm afraid this means Kamal Sowah will go to the bench as his performances in the last months were an absolute disaster. Hopefully we can sign some players. We really need a central defender and a right-back.

Lambert09 Posted 22 January 2020 Share Posted 22 January 2020 Not to dishearten anyone but this is the first year the Canadian Premier League has existed. The standard is very hard to measure but id imagine its not great. Fingers crossed he's a decent prospect.

Our players, staff and board need to wake up to turn this bad spell around!!! First half Westerlo was basically nowhere… if the penalty goes in it would have been an entirely different match and probably over by half time. I'm disappointed mostly by the second half, after equalizing just before halftime I would have expected OHL to come out of the dressing rooms strong but Westerlo just ook over. When down 1-2 Euvrard made three needed subs imo, but Westerlo kept it closed well and we did not see many chances indeed, the 1-3 in the final minute is due to OHL pushing but the game was much more even than the score reflects. It's frustrating, but that's 1B, you don't get many chances and you need to take them. OHL missed their few and Westerlo was very efficient. Let's not panic here. If OHL wins all 6 remaining matches, they will go up, but as soon as they drop some points I would say focus on the finals and let the league be… on the other hand they need to keep an eye on who will be their opponent coz they need to stay ahead of that team in the overall standings. So basically they need to keep pushing anyway. Edited 23 January 2020 by Pelotas
Bonanza Posted 25 January 2020 Share Posted 25 January 2020 1-1 draw against Lokeren. Frustrating game as we were the better team by far. We had enough chances to win the game, but we're not as efficient as we were in the beginning of the season. The ref wasn't our friend today as we should've had at least 1 penalty and we had 1 goal disallowed for offside when we were onside. Dorkingfox Posted 25 January 2020 Share Posted 25 January 2020 (edited) Sickener really, poor refereeing can change a season for a club. The penalty was very clearly a handball, the number 14 put all the OH players onside so should have been a goal and there was no luck with a few good chances. Hope for a better result in the next game. The goal was very good, nicely worked. Edited 25 January 2020 by Dorkingfox

This has cost us 5 points and the top spot in the second period. But we also have to look at ourselves. We just haven't been the same team we were in the first period. To many of our players are underperforming and our manager has been making some questionable tactical decisions. Hopefully we can return to our normal form soon! Pelotas Posted 26 January 2020 Share Posted 26 January 2020 We got robbed of two points by the referee on friday and as is the case for the last few weeks, again it has proven a big missed chance to move up the standings as only Virton managed to win and all other matches were draws. Virton takes over the lead of the second period. Division 1B Promotional Playoffs: between winner of 1st period (OH Leuven) and winner of 2nd period (Virton), Virton to host the return match by virtue of having scored most points combined over both periods (42pts vs 38pts). Virtual groups: group A: Mechelen, Waasland-Beveren, Oostende, Lommel group B: Zulte Waregem, Kortrijk, Cercle Brugge, Beerschot group C: Anderlecht, Eupen, Virton, Union SG group D: Sint-Truiden, Excel Mouscron, Westerlo, OH Leuven 4 group winners play home & away semi finals (A vs C & B vs D) and final with highest league finisher always hosting the return match. Final winner plays 4th place finisher of playoff 1 (or 5th in case one of top four wins the cup, in this case if Antwerp or Club Brugge win the cup and finish top 4) for final European ticket in single match at stadium of highest league finisher = PO1 team. Pelotas Posted 26 January 2020 Share Posted 26 January 2020 (edited) OHL now has two home matches coming up against teams fighting against relegation, Roeselare and Lommel. Roeselare have been playing a bit better as of late but still. Lommel are in very good form after change of manager (Peter Maes). While OHL would need some luck to win the second period, I believe it's nevertheless vital they score 6 points to at least maintain a chance of hosting the return leg of the promotion matches. (Currently 3pts behind Virton and 1 behind Westerlo, so if one of those wins the second period we will need to win the title away from home ) Edited 26 January 2020 by Pelotas
