Are the dodgy refereeing decisions due to incompetence or corruption?

I hope and think it's due to incompetence.

The refs are just really, really awfull. Even with VAR they keep messing things up.

New signing for OHL:

Stallone Limbombe (28, BEL) has signed a 1,5-year deal with our club. Stallone can play on both wing positions. His biggest strength is his speed. He has a lot of experience in both the 1st and 2nd division, playing for Antwerp and Gent. Limbombe started this season in the Turkish 2nd division with Giresunspor (on loan from Gent), but now he will help us win the 2nd division!

A 2nd incoming transfer for us.

Jan Van den Bergh (25, BEL) comes in on loan from AA Gent. Van den Bergh is a left-footed central defender with a lot of experience in the 2nd division. The last three seasons he played for Beerschot, with whom he reached the finals in the last 2 years but lost twice. His good performences didn't go unnoticed as he signed a 3-year deal with AA Gent this summer. Due to a complicated injury he hasn't played for them yet. This loan spell is a win-win situation, as the player will get the necessary playing time and we get a good central defender.

Another important tweet today.... 0-5 forfeit loss overturned. Match to be replayed entirely. It's a match from the first period which has no importance for those standings anymore, however in the overall standings it could still determine who plays the promotion playoffs at home.

Replay date not yet decided will be Tuesday 11th of February, but for the away team (Union SG) the result won't matter at all. Tickets for free.

So if I understand you correctly. Union will still have the win from the abandoned game even if they lose the rearranged game?

Why would they care about a game they get nothing from?

No, as the league overturned the 0-5 forfeit loss Union has lost the 3 points that were given to them.

This game was part of the 1st period, which we already won no matter what the result of this rearranged game.

But it is still important for the overall standings, as the highest ranked team of the regular season will play the 2nd leg of the final at home. As we are already in the final this rearranged game is way more important for us than it is for Union.

2-1 win against Roeselare. Well deserved, but we made it much harder than it needed to be.

We dominated the first 25 minutes, but it was Roeselare who scored after some terrible defending on our part. To be fair, they scored from a clear offside position, but the ref allowed it. We showed a lot of resiliency by scoring in the 32nd and 33th minute, which gave us the 2-1 lead at halftime.

In the 2nd half we had enough opportunities to go up 3-1, but we lack the killer instinct we had in the first part of the season. Roeselare had some small chances to equalize, but luckily we held them off.

In my opinion, we could/should have won this game by 3-1, 4-1 or even 5-1, but we lack the necessary efficiency to finish our chances at the moment. As I said before, well deserved victory!

That’s mad - still a realistic change to get top place

Absolutely... points of period winners since this format was introduced (in bold the team that won the promotion matches):

2016-17: Roeselare 30 (period 1) & Antwerp 29 (period 2)

2017-18: Beerschot-Wilrijk 29 (period 1) & Cercle Brugge 27 (period 2)

2018-19: Mechelen 30 (period 1) & Beerschot-Wilrijk 30 (period 2)

2019-20: OH Leuven 28 (+ 1 match in hand) (period 1) & ...

In case Beerschot or Virton win all four remaining matches, they might still reach 28 which would be a normal winning total. However it's very likely the team winning the second period will set a new record for lowest amount of points. In any case in neither of the seven prior periods six teams still had a realistic chance of winning with only 4 games to go.

So... necessary win against Roeselare but sooo many wasted chances and the game should have been over at halftime already. Also the goal against was a giveaway, really poor passing from four or five OHL players, should never have happened (especially since on to op that it was clearly offside, again refereeing error against OHL!). Anyway forget about it and move on... if OHL wins all four remaining matches, promotion is certain (unless Westerlo also wins all remaining matches, then goal difference will decide). Of course OHL still has the promotion finals as backup plan...

Virton only drew with Lommel, allowing Beerschot to take the lead in the second period on goal difference. Relegation battle saw Roeselare and Lokeren lose while Lommel snatched a point, so Lommel now four points clear of Roeselare and relegation finals between Roeselare and Lokeren becoming more probable.

Should however the current standings be final, then the following would happen:

  • Division 1B Promotional Playoffs: between winner of 1st period (OH Leuven) and winner of 2nd period (Beerschot), OH Leuven to host the return match by virtue of having scored most points combined over both periods (42pts vs 33pts). Winner will play in 1A next season, but after the promotional play-offs, both teams will take part in play PO2 this season.

  • Playoff 2 (Europa League Playoffs): Virton, OH Leuven, Westerlo, Union SG, Beerschot and Lommel qualify by virtue of finishing top 6 overall (period 1 + period 2). Virtual groups:
    •  group A: Zulte Waregem, Oostende, Waasland-Beveren, Lommel
    •  group B: Mechelen, Eupen, Cercle Brugge, Beerschot
    •  group C: Anderlecht, Kortrijk, Virton, Union SG
    •  group D: Sint-Truiden, Excel Mouscron, OH Leuven, Westerlo
    •  4 group winners play home & away semi finals (A vs C & B vs D) and final with highest league finisher always hosting the return match. Final winner plays 4th place finisher of playoff 1 (or 5th in case one of top four wins the cup, in this case if Antwerp or Club Brugge win the cup and finish top 4) for final European ticket in single match at stadium of highest league finisher = PO1 team.

  • Playoff 3 (Relegation Playoffs): bottom two teams in the overall 1B standings, Roeselare and Lokeren, take part in a best-of-five playoff. As Roeselare (22pts) finished ahead of Lokeren (19pts), they start with home advantage and receive a three point head start.

So looking at the fixtures if OH win their last 4 games, trusting I’ve got that right. They should win the division and be promoted.

correct. If they can win their last 4 games, they are guaranteed promotion. That's a big if though as we're not playing well at the moment. Let's hope the new transfers can inspire the team and provide a boost.

Not 100%: if Westerlo also win all four remaining matches it will come down to goal difference and they are leading by a large margin of seven goals: Westerlo currently at  +3, OHL at -4.

Don't know if it's been mentioned already but there are about 100 Leicester fans coming over to the Leuven v Lommel United game this weekend.

This was part of a free raffel given away by Top.

Yohan Croizet (27, FRA, Attacking midfielder) will play for us until the end of the season. Croizet is no stranger, as het played for us during the 2014-2015 and 2015-2016 season. He was a big part of the team that won promotion to the 1st division in 2015 and was also one of our best players during the 2015-2016 season. In the summer of 2016, Croizet signed with KV Mechelen, were he had a lot of ups and downs. In 2018 Yohan signed with Sporting Kansas City in the MLS, were he would play 56 games and score 10 goals. His contract ran out in September, so Croizet was a free agent.
