Ill tell you what, even though we might disagree, you, Alf Bentley and Toddy are this thread. Its interesting reading your thoughts.

Thanks for the compliment - though there are a number of other good posters to this thread, some regular, some occasional, some consistent, some inconsistent (though we're probably all inconsistent to varying degrees).

I'm overwhelmed. Next we'll have Toddy offering to send me a tenner through PayPal for a nice bottle of wine for myself.

You can get a nice bottle of wine for a tenner?

Definitely, they do a great wine review in the ST - you can pick up decent bottles for that price.

One of the best whites I've ever tasted was about 4 euros in Portugal.

Apparently Wetherspoon's are going to stop serving champagne out of solidarity with Brexit or something.

Just saying....

I thought this was a joke, how splendid to find out it's not.

Kopperberg moving to Britain post-Brexit? We must be their biggest market by a mile.

Apropos of Wetherspoons (and sod all else), one morning whilst walking into town, a car pulls up and the passenger asks 'do you know where we can get a decent breakfast? Is there a Wetherspoons or something?'...

Having never had a Wetherspoons breakfast, and there not being one in town anyway, I had to treat that as two separate questions.  Praps they do a good breakfast, I don't know.

I wonder why native cider makers are apparently unable to compete with Kopparberg?

I only occasionally drank cider in the past, but tried their perry (pear cider) before, nothing special as I recall.

As it's Wetherspoon's, price is obviously part of it. The French drink a fair bit of cider, I think, though probably not cheap stuff.

In my boozing days, I was (accidentally) a true patriot - mainly consuming English ales, with just a few Belgian beers and Spanish, Chilean or  Argentine red wines thrown in.

Not like all these unpatriotic swillers of continental lagers.... :D

As a cider drinker, there is nothing about Kopparberg that is cider, cider is Symonds, Old Rosie, Aspalls, Westons etc (a good cider should be well over 6% as well) - I suppose you can throw Strongbow in as well for the dry market as some pubs still aven't brannched out.

Kopparberg is cider for people who don't like cider. They have these really dry ones now like Old Mout, £4 a bottle for 4% girls drink.

There is a pop up bar in Anstey that opens at times which is well worth a visit, do a pint called "Charnwood Oak" which is a terrific cider.

I'm not sure there's enough sugar in Britain to brew that stuff here - still, a great boost for struggling Dentists.

nasty Nats walking out. Shows how much respect SNP MP's have for their constituents when they walk out the main legislature of their country but wouldn't dare to do the same in their glorified county council chamber.

I think that’s where they disagree with you...

They think of Westminster as the seat of government of an occupying power, they call the Union flag “the butcher’s apron”, they boo GSTG.

I’m surprised they’ve not tried this stunt before.

Can't ever have been a more bunch of childish wankers ever to enter the house, the clapping, the whistling etc was bad enough but now just standing there so the speaker has to throw you out so you can action pre-planned mass walkouts? Pathetic.

He now can't vote in the bills later either.

How is it splendid that Spoons are going to stop selling European beers?

I'd have thought if there was one thing even you'd have to agree was a downside to brexit it'd be less (or more expensive) access to Belgian and German beers!

Tbf PMQs brings out the worst of every politician. Its often just a full house of school boys giggling and cheering and being rude and acting up.

I find it ****ing embarrassing to watch sometimes, thinking these guys are running our country.

I'm sure it's the same in every country mind, don't get me wrong, and it's Tories, Labour, Dems, all as bad as each other whooping and carrying on and sniggering.

The whole thing is very often childish.

"Respect the will of the people", they say.

But who's going to act as executor of that will?

Not really the will of the people though, the will of the people suggests some overwhelming desire.

It's still weird to me that nobody seemed to give a shit about the EU a few years ago, now the EU is either the worst thing or the best thing ever.

strange.

I agree with your comment, but was just punning around with "will" - as in the people's last will and testament.

It is, but I actually like it. Probably should be in the "unpopular opinions" as it's well out of tune with the public mood thread but I absolutely love the way our house is almost oafish, I think political debate should be loud and as aggressive as you can get without resorting to any physical contact - today was proper playground stuff though, the speaker telling him to sit down and he just stood there until he got threw out so they could all follow lol

When I watch a session from the senate I really do find it dull, I'd love to go to PMQ's one day, I bet it's pure theatre watching from the gallery.

strange.

The Lisbon treaty in 2008 was the big game changer, not just the impact of the actual document but the re-running and overturning of individual states deciding against it through referendum, that was when many realised just what sort of organisation this was and what it's intentions were.

Ironically given today's actions, the Lib Dems did a parliamentary walkout just over ten years ago at the decision not to allow MPs to debate it and vote on a Lib Dem call for a referendum to be held on the UK's membership of the EU - quite incredible given the party position now.
