England World Cup hero Harry Maguire has thanked Gainsborough Trinity for their hospitality after watching the Blues’ pre-season friendly against Chesterfield last night.

The Leicester City defender - one of England’s star during their run to semi-finals in Russia - was at the Northolme to watch his brothers Joe, who plays for Trinity, and Laurence, a defender for Chesterfield.

A strong Spireites side won the game 4-0, but the main attraction appeared to be the presence of Maguire, which helped draw a crowd of more than 900 to the Northolme, twice Trinity’s usual average crowd.

The down-to-earth 25-year-old took time to pose for selfies with fans and sign autographs.

And after the game he tweeted his thanks to the Blues for the warm welcome he received.

“Thanks for looking after me @GainsTrinityFC . Hope everyone enjoyed their night. Sorry if I missed anyone,” he said.

Trinity continue their pre-season schedule with a County Cup tie against Stamford on Thursday.

The Blues then host a Peterborough United XI on Tuesday, July 24.
