Strikers

So people seem happy to let Ulloa go for a fee and others happy to sell on Slimani as he really doesn't fit the way we play.

That said if the unthinkable happened and Vardy got injured - Yes we could play Icheancho and Okazaki but there really wouldn't be any strength in depth the way we play and I genuinely believe we'd be stuffed.

I don't necessarily mind selling both Ulloa and Slim (though I'd not be disappointed to keep Slim) but we'd need a fourth striker and somebody who fits... the more I think about it weirdly, Deeney actually seems like a good option if we got money for our two big lads.

Keeping strikers happy is a nightmare but I do think that competition for places makes a difference - take a look at Shinji's performance last week. Can't help but think he was extra good because he was fighting for his starting place.

Id like four strikers that fit our style. We currently have three. Most managers seem to like 5 strikers for a campaign to cope with injuries and the amount of games but I can't see a way of keeping that many happy!

Vardy and Iheanacho will almost certainly be first choice.

Okazaki will be first reserve.

One of Slimani or Ulloa needs to go and I personally have no strong opinion on which one but it would be dependent on the offers we received.

What would FT do if you got injured?

Now there's a thread...

For a moment I thought a few Leicester players had gone on strike, seems to be the trend of Premier League footballers nowadays! lol

We need a like for like back up for Vardy.

It's unlikely we'll sign another striker though. However we had scouts watching Birmingham in pre-season, so maybe we're looking at signing Che Adams in January? Apparently he's similar to Vardy.

I wouldn't sell Slimani.

We've got good service in Albrighton, Fuchs, Mahrez and with a good run in the side Slimani can easily bag us 10-14 goals a season. Only things I worry about are his ability to stay fit and his first touch.

I never understood the idea of giving Ulloa a new contract, unless the club thought we couldn't get anybody else in (ie Iheanacho).

To be fair, if it gets to a point where we have to rely on Leo I'd say we're stuffed anyway. I'd rather play Dimmy Gray up front before Leo. Him and Kelechi would be delightful.

No need for that now is there.

And it is a poor thread. Nick must try harder.

I don't get this Slimani doesn't fit our style of play surely one of the reasons for having a number of strikers is so you can change the way we play through substitutions if it's not working.

Whether Slimani is good enough for that I don't know.

If Vardy gets injured we're screwed regardless. He is so important to the way we play it is unthinkable that we'd have to play without him. I don't actually know what we'd do in that scenario.

I don't see what you're saying about Deeney at all, how would he suit us?

Whilst I agree that I'd rather keep Slimani of the two, Ulloa could easily score 10-14 with an extended run in the side as well.

It's still ridiculous that we can win the league with Vardy plus either Okazaki or Ulloa, but if you pair Okazaki and Ulloa they barely look like footballers.

Vardy's pace and finishing are so good that we can afford to partner him with players to whom the ball is incidental. There was a great moment in the Luton pre-season game when the ball was played forward, Okazaki and Ulloa both did their thing where they back into their marker and let the ball bounce through, then realised they were playing up front with each other and it went straight to the goalkeeper.

Even better is that the Vardy back-up option was meant to be *drum roll* Musa.

Iheanacho looks, on paper, to be the perfect signing as he's capable of playing both roles but the jury's out for now.

He's a physical harrying no.10/second striker - whilst I recognise ideally we need a Vardy replacement, KI can play both roles so we'd have cover which suits our playing style I guess. I think he'd be a better bet than Ulloa. I did say it was a weird thought!

Some people write considered and differing responses not just post the same old rhetoric in every thread. These are the posters who have rep points proportional to say a third to half of their total post count.
