polar98 Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Okay I know the champions league is a european format, but I reckon this should be reformatted to include the top teams from south america. People underestimate some of these teams, who would you rather watch? Teams like Qarabag or Boca Juniors/a top brazilian side? Or am i talking rubbish
Guest Kopfkino Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Don't think some Leicester fans would survive Boca '**** off Argentina, the Falklands are ours'
Guest Kopfkino Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Besides, what's wrong with their own Champions League?
matty98 Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Wouldn't be good for fans, doubt many could afford to fly out to South America at short notice
RoboFox Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Absolutely. Who could turn down an away day at Peruvian giants Deportivo Wanka?
boots60 Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 A good idea in principle but probably wouldn't work because it would become a shop window for the South Americans. For many years now any half decent South American effs off to Europe at the first opportunity & the obvious reason for that is money. If the cash from the worldwide TV rights were evenly distributed then the South Americans could possibly hold on to their players easier though Real, Barca, Bayern etc would probably put the kibosh on that idea.
urban.spaceman Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 How many of them are members of UEFA (Union of European Football Associations)?

True yeah, good point. I can see the MLS sides being included in the south american champions league perhaps in future. Just think theres an opportunity somewhere to have a worldwide club competition, especially as teams around the world seem to be improving all the time
davieG Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Either it would end up too big or countries like England and Spain would only be allowed 1 or 2 teams and others like Norway none.
Kitchandro Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 It's the European Cup with a different name, so explain to me how you could justify having South American teams in it?
Manwell Pablo Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 id not be adverse to doing something around making the club World Cup a bit more of an event, I won't bore people with the specifics but perhaps if it was played once every 2 years with 8 teams and two groups of four or once every four with 4 groups of 16. But Obviously to anyone with any idea about football the cl is the cl and the copa lib is the copa lib. Continental competitions, end of.
Voll Blau Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 I'd love to see more intercontinental competition, but that'd be a logistical nightmare. Mini end of/pre-season tournament featuring the best of the best would be decent though. Certainly be more enjoyable than the brand-expanding round the world cack everyone goes in for each summer at the moment. Would love to see the South American fans in action too.
Brainy Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 Teams like Qarabag would probably be a match for the better South American sides tbh It's pretty disrespectful especially if you are a fan of this club. I bet quite a lot of Azerbaijanis probably don't give much of a shit seeing us in the CL either
ScouseFox Posted 30 August 2017 Posted 30 August 2017 gonna throw it out there an state the obvious but the world is a bit too big for an ongoing tournament that covers the whole thing. western europe spend year upon year complaining that going to places like turkey and scandinavia midweek basically gives you an automatic loss 4 days later, not sure how someone like guardiola and his threadbare man city squad would survive a wednesday night game in bolivia. and that's before you even consider the fans

Jordan Posted 31 August 2017 Posted 31 August 2017 This is a logistical impossibility. A proper World Club Championship with a group stage would be better. With the way the international schedule works, FIFA/the confederations/the clubs would probably never get a chance to run this until summer of 2022. I can actually see 2022 and the winter World Cup eventually being the catalyst that leads to a major revolt by the big Euro clubs.
MC Prussian Posted 31 August 2017 Posted 31 August 2017 No, thanks. The traveling and scheduling conflicts, coupled with time differences put your idea to bed immediately. Will never happen, should never happen.

They are both CLs I agree with the first point though, the world club cup is crap, have a World Club cup in the summers when there is no international tournament, maybe scrap the confederations cup and have a WCC in the WC host country all the winners of the various continental championships over the last 4 years.
