That others have barely come close in the nearly 40 years since and the amount of other athletes busted for PED use around that time makes it obvious, but not proven, IMO.

The cheating didn't do her much good health wise it seems. I'm reminded of Kathy Smallwood-Cook who was not a cheat but a talented athlete who achieved medals in major championships but had to compete against others later found to have cheated.

It sounds like the law against unlicensed breeding for profit needs to be better enforced, too.

I actually think we can turn a corner under Russell Martin. He just needs to be given the tools for us to do so, starting with another centre back and a central midfielder.

Yeah I agree. I always find it ugly, grey and with a nasty undercurrent. I think in most European countries it'd be something of an embarrassment and I have no idea why people here big it up so much.

Do people here big it up? Fair enough, I don't mind it, don't love it, don't hate it. Maybe it'd be an embarrassment on aesthetics but surely it's more prosperous, skill-based, more opportunities for investment, jobs, growth and prosperity than European cities like Athens. Yeh cool Athens is well nice but it must be crap growing up knowing you're gonna have to leave to find any sort of opportunity.

Just a feeling that crime and violence are lurking not that far under the surface. And I realise vibes are not the best way to judge a place. Probably it's just hearing the accent, makes me think I'm about to get mugged.

Athens is a fun but not particularly safe or attractive city so not that dissimilar to Manchester. I don't think I'd be able to cope with the weather in either of them.

True. Trying to think of a comparable sized European city that is way prettier (therefore better to visit) but not as economical or infrastructural advanced as Manchester (therefore you’re gonna have to move for opportunity). All I could think of was Athens. Maybe Lyon? Valencia? Wroclaw?

This is obviously true. As someone who’s lived and worked in America (albeit 10 years ago and only in one city) that country is way more dangerous than anything any all inclusive £50 a month jet2 British happy clapper will ever experience to live in. 

Which begs the question. Is there any end to Elon musk promoted bot tweets? I.e. if his bots tweet all carling contains poison that will turn you into a guardian reader, will armies of happy clappers switch to Stella?

America is not the only country in the world and if you think someone has had their mind addled by Elon's algorithms to point out that many British cities compare quite poorly to European ones in terms of crime and safety, perhaps you have also had your mind addled by said algorithms. I realise that's a terribly worded and confusing sentence. 

 

Surely a few years ago those algorithms were convincing Brits that Europe was incredibly dangerous and European criminals were queuing up at the airport to come and live off benefits in Peterborough. 

 

I know very little about the region but I'm guessing East Asian cities also compare favourably to the UK.
