The curious case of Eldin Jakupovic

Possibly but we are effectively one injury away from needing an experienced keeper on the bench, he’s under contract and it’s in the interests of the club who pay him well to keep him here.

Might aswell bin the academy then. We already have two experienced GKs, and on the unlikely event that 1 of our keepers let alone 2 get injured, that is when we should be looking into our youngsters. There are a few clubs in the PL where all 3 of our GKs could get into their starting 11. We're a midtable club, we cant really expect that luxury of a more than capable 30yo+ wasting away as 3rd choice.

Or have an experienced no3 and loan the young lads out as we have done

If you were Jakupovic would you be happy wastiing your career away on the off chance that the two players ahead of you are going to get long term injuries?

No that’s not what I’m saying I’m talking from the clubs POV, he was 1 of 3 senior keepers the day he signed, if he left we’d sign another senior keeper

Done an interview for the biggest Swiss rag today, leading up to the England - Switzerland friendly.

Pretty happy to be No.3 between the posts, admits that it was a tough job in the first place trying to get past Schmeichel, but also says that he and Puel don't get along that well.

Coupled with the fact that he's allegedly made his frustration very clear to the gaffer, but the club not willing to sell him over this summer means that he's intentionally being kept in that vacuum where he has no room for improvement and little chance of playing - unless at least one out of Schmeichel or Ward is injured.

One could consider that some sort of punishment, of course.

Other than that, praise for the club, the players and the chairman.

Two more years on his contract. There are worse ways of making a living...

How can he be pretty happy to be our number 3 but has friction with Puel as he's not playing and wanted to leave? There's a common theme here as he seemed to burn his bridges early on with Shakespeare as well so something's not right with the man. It's hard for back up goalies, I think there teams should start playing two of them every game to make it fairer on them.

I think the real cause of the friction is between Jakupovic and Schmeichels "attack-dog" (ie Stowell!). If Kasper doesn't like you (or feels threatened by you!) then Stowell is "unleashed" and Stowell has direct lines of communication with the manager (ie Puel and Shakespeare). Jakupovic (& Zeiler) were told they would be No2 challenging for Kaspers shirt when they signed but that was simply never going to happen with Kaspers power/control within the club.....hence the clashes with Stowell and Snr management

I suspect the day Kasper leaves this club (ie ever?) will be the day Stowells position becomes seriously weakened as he is effectively just a 'messenger boy' who knows how to protect his own interests.

Really?

Whilst I'm surprised we didn't sell him in the summer - or at least after we got Ward in - do we really know that anybody was offering money to buy him? If he were good enough he'd be the no.1 or the no.2 He's had chances and he really didn't impress - which is surprising.

It's not punishment to be paid a shed load of money to not play when you are clearly not as good as players in your position at the club. Sounds more like a cushy number for natural selection.

Interview saying that he doesn’t get on with Puel.

Up the league fox the first to tell us that Jakupovic was joining us.

Tweets from Geoff Peters last season telling us that players weren’t happy with Puel.

Have we unearthed the missing link?

I pointed that out last year.

He chose to come to Leicester knowing that he'd have to displace Kasper. He accepted the good wedge he's being paid. He has failed to replace Kasper and he really hasn't looked that good when he has played for the team. Either he needs to work hard an improve his game or happily keep taking the cash. Conrad Logan managed it for years before landing a starting job - and showing why he couldn't displace Kasper.

Jakupovic openly admitted (with the benefit of hindsight, one might add) that he's had his issues with following orders, he had a row with then-national team manager Hitzfeld in 2008, where he left the training camp over a dispute over the No.2 position (losing out to Marco Woelfli) and stated he'd never play for Switzerland again, he's had issues at Grasshopper Club in between 2007 and 2009, so there is previous history - he confessed to leading an unhealthy lifestyle in the past, often going out late, drinking booze and whatnot with team mates, or spending too much money on fast cars.

12 out of the 20 teams in the Premier League have at least 3 experienced/senior keepers, its not as if we are the only ones doing it

Oh fair enough, I change my mind then its a good thing

Going the Man Utd/Chelsea route with Lee Grant and Rob Green is fair enough. Jakupovic is better than both right now and a younger age. Maybe the first two could still hack it in the Championship as a regular but the lure of big clubs, 99% certain to be their last hurrah but knowing its very unlikely they'll ever actually play is good business. We're just being greedy if we're keeping him "just incase"

Even if Jak is disruptive Johannson, Iversen and Bramley are too inexperienced for the Premier League being as they are currently in the u23s, league 2 and conference north.

Apparently being a big club means having an injury replacement for your injury replacement.

We have six goalkeepers now, with two out on loan. And our new u23 keeper looks decent enough for a loan. Let's go for another in the transfer window and loan him out - a keeper in every league!

He seemed to have done something early on under Shakespeare and now is admitting to not getting on with Puel either. This is a bloke that bar the latter half of the season before had mainly been a backup goalie at Hull and at other clubs, seems odd for him to be so restless and potentially causing friction, what did he expect?

Rumours that Schmeichel and Vardy weren't happy and yet they've both signed extended contracts.

Strange that.

And interviews with N’Didi and Chilwell recently who both spoke directly of their appreciation toward their manager.
