Why does Puel favour this, it's making Vardy more isolated imo, we have to play a support striker whether thats 4-4-1-1.

Any thoughts?

Threads gone off topic already.

I think vardy has been in good form as a lone striker. The job is to score but also open up space for others and i think hes doing a good job of that.

I like the attempts to make us more fluid rather than relying on goals from one source and predictable patterns of play.

Hes a good lone striker in attributes too. Quick, high stamina, high work rate and can stretch the back 4

I agree that vardy is too isolated. I would like to see inechecho played upfront alongside vardy. The only time I can remember the two playing together was against wba and inechecho was behind Vardy. I do question it especially at home because basically were playing 1 upfront against lesser opposition. Imo it's a better formation away from home. I'd still like us to play 3 at the back with wing backs and two in midfield with Mahrez just behind with two upfront.

Think Puel’s preferred tactics/system requires an out an out number 10. Shame because at the minute we look better when Okazaki’s in the team, but we have to adapt to the managers preferences.

Hopefully we sign a number 10 in January instead of playing Gray there.

So Vardy will continue to be isolated but as others have already stated his work rate/movement/runs in behind opens up more space for the 3 behind him to create chances & score goals.

Vardy may be isolated and slightly more ineffective in his goalscoring, but the forward 3 behind him have all benefited massively from it- Mahrez, Gray, Albrighton and Okazaki have all scored a few since Puel took charge. So has Vardy.

I'd much rather we had 4 chipping in than rely on the form of 1 striker.

I am not a fan of it. It doesn't work for us because attackers are never close enough. Slimani actually won a few headers on Saturday but nobody is near him so it's pointless, he can't flick it on to anybody.

For Vardy to thrive in this role he needs to adapt and he needs to mix it up, come deep go wide, let Okazaki or Mahrez or Gray be the furthest man forwards, give the defence a real headache. Do I follow Vardy or pick up Mahrez? If they follow him they leave a gap behind for Vardy/others to exploit if they let him go he can pick the ball up and run at them. So when he has it deep he can either run at the defence, or if he has his back to goal he can lay it off and spin in behind. Like his brilliant goal against West Brom.

vardy or whoever plays up there seem to spend alot of time chasing shadows or trying to control the ball at neck height so its a case of waiting for our current players to learn how to play that system or bringing in a bunch of new players that can and will play that system.
