As Finn says, there are deeper issues than just the catcalling and objectification regarding sexism, even today.

I definitely agree that the high instances of male suicide is something that needs to be addressed - ironically it's the traditionally masculine attitude of stoicism, "being tough, man up" and bottling up your problems that is a leading contributor of this IMO. Blokes feel that they can't talk to anyone about stuff that's going on because society says that they can't or mustn't, so they take what they think is the only way out of the problem. That's something that really should change.

I don't think there aren't issues more that the issues are always going to be there. Society is tough on these issues, yet they persist and always will. Of course it's defeatist to the core to just say, well boys will be boys but it's the truth.

Yeah, it's defeatist, and I don't buy that it has to be that way for all time. But that's me.

Get in the ****ing sea you caveman.

#sorrynotsorry

They are though. It's evident throughout history and even in today's tough approach to it and with all the stigma, punishments etc that exist (and rightly so) it persists.

Just realised another one I'm forgetting, I knew there was another issue pissing me off recently, ****ing grid and ring girls.

Rich white male corporate executives deciding, under pressure from who exactly, that girls can't be employed as models connected with their sport anymore.

Funnily enough it's rich, white male law makers around the world also denying women the right to decide whether or not they can stop a spawn growing in their womb.

Why not consult women working in modelling whether or not they consider themselves sexually objectified before we take away their jobs? I know a lot of models consider themselves empowered by their profession, maybe that's the problem. Maybe sad, lonely old men are starting to realise they're the victims as they throw their money at these girls they lust after?

Grid girls reinforce out dated attitudes towards sex and sexuality do they? How about instead we just expect men to be change their attitudes towards women and sex out of respect anyway?

To me, banning grid girls because of the attitudes towards sex they enforce is a bit like telling a young girl going on a night out that she shouldn't dress attractively because she might get attacked.

**** that. The onus should be on the perp to control their behaviour, not the victim.

Let's not stick a bag over the head of our sexuality and pretend it doesn't exist. I notice nobody's calling for Anthony Joshua to cover up his rippled, muscly body incase he gets sexually objectified in the ring.

Having a healthy relationship with sex and beauty isn't a problem, we just have a social responsibility - as men and women - to KEEP that relationship healthy.

Banning grid girls isn't healthy, it's just ****ing hiding.

At the end of the day, all you are doing is articulating what most sane people think. You're not however offering any solution or progression and you can't because other than create stigma as a society and impose punishments for various actions there is little left. I worry all the time about what kind of society my baby niece will grow up in too but I know ranting on about pointless shit everyone already knows won't do anything. Maybe we do need to just accept the science and look at ways to utilise that data to our advantage. I don't know, I don't have the solution. But neither do you, so is there any point chatting crap to each other?

So you are ignoring the massive social shift of the role of men and women in society that has already happened?  Absolute nonsense.  Society constantly changes and here you are suggesting it is some kind of fixed thing.

When did I say that? Biology and society are very different things. People were still gay when being gay wasn't acceptable.

I couldn't believe recently they were debating whether to have a statue of Thatcher in Parliament Square and the article read "she'd become the first woman to have a statue there"....... Pankhurst should already be up there, no doubt about it.

I have nothing but admiration for the suffragettes.

But nowadays I don't like people hiding behind "feminism". I saw a tweet of a group of girls (probably teenagers) with their boobs out and the caption "this is for feminism"..... I didn't get it. Davison did not chuck herself under a horse for girls to post shit like that.

Other than that, all for it. How the gender pay gap still exists I don't know.

Any chance of a link, I’m struggling to picture such a horrible violation of feminism?

On a semi-related note, anyone else seen the video of Trudeau interrupting a woman asking a question and 'correcting' her because she said "mankind" and not "people-kind" lol ?

Finnegan is exactly right, the real feminist issues lie primarily in the developing world. FGM is absolutely abhorrent and that should be the focus of feminism not subjective objectification.

What do you mean by that, buce? I'll have you know that i'm very successful with the ladies. Just last month a girl said '"hey" to me. But to be fair, she added " get out of the way you waste of space" but that's neather here nor there.

I'm sure that's just her way of flirting i guess?....right?........right? come one mate, help a brother save face here.

All I know is this, foxy:

When a guy sleeps with loads of girls, he's a stud.

But when a girl sleeps with loads of guys, somehow I'm not one of them...

Come on, "blokes are horny" is not any sort of excuse for sexual harassment (as suggested by saying it'll happen because of it). Vast majority of men don't feel the need to grope some stranger when they're feeling a bit randy, people who do shouldn't just get dismissed with boys will be boys or shit like that, they're just people who should have been wankstains.

He never stated at any point it was an excuse for it.

In my experience he's right men do seem to be of a more sex-obsessed mindset than women but I don't' have evidence to back it up.

I'll be honest. I have loads of evidence to the contrary. Shed loads of evidence. I'm talking final scene of Raiders of the Last Ark kind of amount of evidence.

Oh yeah.

He did. Saying it'll always happen because blokes are horny is using it as an excuse...

I was about to start a topic along the lines of "Modern Feminism is like Cancer", but I deem this thread appropriate instead.

Gender equality can be achieved to some extent, but biology will remain the woman's worst enemy forever. Due to their built and organs, they are pre-destined to carry children and they are (infinitely) weaker than men, which means the gap in payment will remain, at least in some areas where physicality and hard manual labor is involved (e.g. in construction). There are many fields that should strive for equality though, because men and women's output can be measured and compared more easily. If given similar age, similar eduction and similar experience, then I don't see why women should be paid less for the same type of work.

Nowadays, and also in parts thanks to feminism which encourages women to pursue a career, women are under enormeous pressure to achieve more in a relatively short time frame, meaning in between 20 and 35 - after that, the biological clock ticks away, in unforgivable ways. It also means competition among women is much more intense during those 15 years, which doesn't help when you consider that women are more prone to depression and anxiety than men (we lead the stats in suicide, though - hooray).

In short, some type of inequality between the sexes will always exist. The question is how do we deal with it. Do we accept it? Do we encourage a discussion how to use it for everyone's benefit? Or do we give way to radical feminism that sees fault in everything done by men and that paints a cruel picture of "patriarchy"?

What I'd like to see addressed more are the problems of the Modern Man, how we deal with the male suicide rates, the lack of father figures in one-parent households, the discussion surrounding alimony in divorce cases, empowerment without negatively affecting women. The discussion has been rather one-sided (focus on support for women), but how should men work in this environment, without being stripped of their assets?
