I'm on Dec 16th already, a few days ahead......... the month is flying by !

Very much coming to the conclusion that I might need a total dry period in the NY

Maybe just have a drink at the weekend. If it's something that you enjoy why stop completely ?

Obviously it's personal choice, but I've only done dry January once, but didn't enjoy it one bit.

I rarely drink during the working week, which is 'winning the week', l guess.

Had an Andechser 5.9% Helles bottle at Wilfred Pinsent yesterday.

What a bottle shop and micropub that is, by the way.

I'm a little bit incapable of a half way house approach tbh.

I think a full stop for a month is more achievable for me and I'll be less likely to take the piss.

Same, think dry jan is a dumb idea. Having a bit of time off before going back to normal is only good for the ego. I only drink fri and sat and less than 14 units 3 weeks out of 4.

That being said there's obviously the money angle to it which is huge. You get loads of dumb 20 somethings in jersey spending £100+ every Friday night in the worst pubs drinking the worst beer known to man, then complaining they haven't got any money to do a Ryanair weekend away. So I guess if you do a month off the blob and you spend like these people you could save a fair whack

I always try and bank as much time as possible in Jan off the drink. Usually do about 3 weeks. For someone who drinks a bit too much, it's a good chance to get a few dry weeks under your belt when there's not going to be many options out there to tempt you. I generally try and avoid drinking in the week, but it doesn't always happen. I'm a sucker for a Sunday evening beer at home which I think is just down to boredom.

Does anyone know any pubs that do carling premier on tap? Can’t stand normal carling but premier was class back in the day. Want one for nostalgic reasons.

Shooterz in Coalville. I’ve just seen someone post it on Facebook lol

Had some interesting ones today in capital city before the bevs get largely jacked in bar the odd bimonthly binge / event / tour in 2025.

Leyton Engineer in Leyton (surprisingly) - reopened relatively recently, really really well done job from the people behind the Approach Tavern down Bethnal Green way which was one of my favourite new visits of the year. Cask selection was a bit unvaried but well kept, great keg selection if you're into that.

Got off at Liverpool St and walked up to the Barley Mow in Shoreditch from the same group. Bloody tiny place really but lovely crowd and Landlord and Five Points Railway Porter on cask. Gem in a sea of absolute dross. Would recommend seeking out any boozer under the Remarkable Pubs umbrella if any of the thread lads are ever in London.

Now in the Wenlock which is a top 5 in the country for me and I could fall asleep in here, and I mean that in the nicest possible way.

A nice cider in the Thornbury Castle here in London today. Although a lot busier than it normally is daytime, still able to find somewhere to sit - in fact it's top of the list for anyone in the Marylebone/Baker Street area wanting a civilised place to drink with a good chance of a seat. Other places in the neighbourhood get over-full most evenings, but because the Thornbury is down a side street it usually escapes being crowded....I said usually, but sometimes the Friday band can bring in the crowds.

Ticked a few more off in Nottingham today, it’s miles ahead of cities it ought not to be. The Bath Inn is marvellous.

I've had 2 pints of Ricard for aperitif, then two pints of 3 mons lager for lunch

but chilly chilly is the evening time, Waterloo sunset's fine

Not exactly my last pint but The Kernel Brewery Nitro Stout from the Brew Tavern next to Nottingham Station was superb.

Second nitro stout I’ve had in the last few weeks and both were exceptionally good.

Aspall's 'draught cyder' in bottles is like crack. Don't even like cider that much but that stuff is addictive

Should be done bt trades description

I haven't done the pubs over that side, looks like there's a few good ones. Is the beer selection decent in the Bath? Saw European Bar Guide was there recently.

Got a whole day in London to myself on Tuesday so hoping to tick off some places before a curry at Brigadiers later.

I'm going to be in Waterloo and Covent Garden. Was thinking Kings Arms, The Harp and maybe the Lyric. If anyone has any other suggestions that would be great.

If you're walking that way, try Lyceum tavern and savoy tap
