The mate I was with ordered us a couple.

It was ok, nothing special. But we were quite a few beers in by that stage.

I've been going to The Rake for years, and didn't realise it was owned by the same guys that have Utobeer - the mad canned beer place in the market.

I got talking to a couple of blokes at the next table and they turned out to be the owners (and they actually had the good grace to apologise for the price of the twenty quid beer)!

Sup by Northern Monk. One of the better session pales I've had recently. Lightly hopped and flavoursome for a 3.4% beer. Reminded me a bit of Everard's Beacon Hill.

Krush Superdelic by TwobyTwo brewing at Stoneygate Classroom. Lovely (but not quite as nice as Leapfrog).

Why was it so expensive?

It's an expensive place anyway but I'd image the import cost for a beer which was a select run of production.

I noticed on my recent travels abroad the price difference between import beer and local beer. In Sweden, Kirstall Bitter was high as £10 lol

In Rome. Found a bar in Trastevere slinging out big bottles of Ichnusa for about a quid a go to drink on the street. Also seen all the local students drinking something called Raffo which I’m going to try this evening. Might move here and chase my youth for a few years.

A pint of Charnwood brewery APA

Genuinely think Charnwood brew the best quality cask in the Midlands if not country.

You can taste the quality regardless of whether you like the pint.

Spendy though.

£4.8 for cask is rich

Even here in the states, living within their geographic market, Other Half is priced as a very premium product. $25 for a 4 pack of 16oz cans is typical in a store. It’s very good stuff, but as usual, there are other good products below that price point.

I’ll enjoy this 4 pack of an English-style mild for $15, and save the 9% double IPA for another night.

Various everards cask at the Stamford arms, including pinball and phoenix. A few of their keg too including new world order

Really glad Everards have started being a bit more progressive

They only seem to roll out their small batch stuff into the Stamford.

Had a few pints of Asahi upstairs at the QoB yesterday for a work thing, then into Monte Sorrel for a Schneider Hell at Wilfred Pinsent, a new Round Corner IPA at the Swan. Capped by a nice pint of Cobra at Gurkha New Delhi.

Everards is growing on me too. Was at the Griffin in the week and they had some new ones to try on Cask and Keg, which were all good. Unfortunately the Soar Bridge in Barrow seems to be full of Carling/Madri drinkers so the new stuff just tends to sit idle. The Cask was undrinkable last time I went there- must have been sat there for weeks

Camden Stout at the Holiday Inn next to the ground.

It was OK, nowhere close to Guinness and won’t be having another one.

It seems they have tied themselves to the Camden Brewery as far as draught pints  are concerned. Tried a couple of different pints never been that impressed.

It’s Heineken pushing Camden beer - Heineken being the biggest pub owner / beer supplier in the country

Barrow blows my mind for the amount of deanos in a decent village,

That used to be a good pub :(

Fox Cub and Navigation are safe spaces. Part of me thinks Soar Bridge could be reclaimed…

Pretty much this again tonight. Symmetry, west coast, red car being some of the other ones I recall

Ended up The Tree last night - ran by brew point brewery these days from Bedford. Still stay it’s completely underrated on its way back around from the glorious Orange Tree days
