what are the top 5 in Brum out of interest?

For me? City Centre only

The Wolf - best beer selection

The Wellington - the GOAT of Black Country Ales, although Craven Arms is under-rated

The Old Crown - history and all around good vibe

The Victoria - since its refurb, its got the feeling spot on

The Anchor (soon due to reopen)  - feels proper Digbeth.

Other honourable mentions for Rose Villa Tavern, Bacchus, The Colmore. Not a huge fan of 1000 Trades. Biggest shame as been the Lord Clifden going from 9/10 into a 5.5/10.

If you going out of the immediate city, I'd have Barton Arms (Lozells), White Horse & Hop Garden (Harborne), Prince of Wales (Moseley).

Went to Nottingham last week. Managed to get 14 new ticks. A few more pubs than Leicester but the main difference is that they’re full!

Mate, I think you went with the wrong guys.  I would give u, 30 ticks.  Comparing Leishiter to Notts, its night and day.

And the selection I feel is way more varied. Amstel still feels like a new cool beer in town.

Funny you should say that because a mate of mine said recently that Leicester was the only place he could still get a pint of Amstel.

Black Horse in Preston is so so so good. Went for the first time when we played there in preseason a few years back.

The beer and interior are difficult to match.

This pub has been mentioned a few times on the forum. I need to go.

Small northern cities tend to preserve these pubs well. I find cementing a top 10 of pubs difficult but that'd be challenging the top.

Decent micropub scene getting going there too. My wife's a native and hates the place but I think it's great. Underrated because most just carry on along the M55 to Blackpool if they fancy a mad one up that way.

I didn’t realise how expensive a pint is these days.

£6.20 for a Guinness in The Forge & £5.70 for a Cruzcampo in The Bluebell (Desford)

Seems to be >£7 for commercial lagers everywhere in central London now.

Yeah a good 5 or 6 pubs to be done. The Moorcroft near Deepdale is supposedly great as well. Just like Halifax, one of these gems up North.
