Brother and his mates are getting the 11pm sleeper from Aberdeen to London next Friday night and arrive 8am Saturday.

I'm meeting them midday and thinking about Islington Flight club in the afternoon followed by an old fashioned pub crawl.

Any recommendations for decent boozers round Islington?  Age range 45 to 55.

Also near Euston if possible?

Cheers

I see Shiny Brewery have taken over the Patternmakers Arms in Duffield which will inevitably add another good pub to an already thriving area. Will try and get over that way soon for the first time and tick off Holly Bush Inn.

Any London Heads have any recommendations around Ealing Broadway? Staying down there tomorrow night for work.

Irish pubs your best bet ofd memory.

O’Briens and The Shankee. These are proper Irish boozers as well

Had a couple in Leicester this afternoon. Very quiet. Went with my old man who is now coeliac. They had one beer he could have at Blue Boar but struggled everywhere else. Feel gutted for a man who loved cask so much.

Little Brewery in Derby specialise in gluten free beers. Also the owner of the Wheeltapper in Loughborough is a Celiac and always has multiple gluten free options on Cask (usually from Little).

Handful in Meanwood with Scouse ex of this parish yesterday and a couple in the Bath Hotel in Sheffield today waiting for trains - Bath might be up there with my favourite gaffs in the country, every visit 10/10

Not quite as good as it used to be when Thornbridge ran it but it’s still one of the best. The Red Deer and Bath 1-2 was my favourite

Thanks for your London recommendations but as per usual the plans go out the window after a few beers.

Started with a few Guiness in Worlds End Camden.

Made our way to Euston and had a few in the George while watching Leicester Cov, then while they checked into the hotel I got the barman to put Aberdeen Motherwell on in the Rocket and tried their in house IPA.

Took the tube to Borough Market and had a Jubel in the Southwark Tavern, then a few more in the Old Thameside and another in the Mudlark followed by a couple in the Shipwrights Arms.

All very touristy.

Got the 8pm train back to Loughborough.

Weather was great, London was busy,  had a good day out.

Went to the Great Central Railway Beer Festival on Saturday. Beer selection was excellent and good fun hopping on the train between the stations. Each station has a beer tent with loads of independent beers on and decent food vendors too. Will deffo go next year. Seems like it did very well from my few hours there.

I am very much a soft southern pansy but no idea how some people on this thread consume so many pints lol

Hardcore diet in the week and taking up running! The beer and running thread go hand in hand 😂 Having said that I’ve gone to complete shit this summer with lots of weddings, stag dos, and all the casual beers inbetween. Starting to impact my wellbeing and need to cut down. Do always look forward to a few beers at the weekend though.

I don't have the constitution. What I love about these pub crawl posts is that they always end with "and then I got the train back to Leicester at [two hours before I'd usually even consider going out]".

Fullers ESB on in the Wagon, had about 7 or 8 of them

This is what I mean. This must be an ironic reference to my post because how the hell do you have 8 ESB.
