Icke is fricking bonkers to he honest but I'm not entirely sure he's dangerous as such. There are definitely antisemitic, far right conspiracy theorists. Sure.

People have accused Icke of using lizard men as code for Jews but of all of the conspiracy nuts, he's the one you genuinely most believe when he claims he means ACTUAL lizard people. lol

I quite enjoy his videos and crazy theories. I hope the lizard people are real and he has the last laugh :P

Endorsed as genuine and heavily featured the anti-semitic conspiracy theory that is 'The Protocols of the Elders of Zion' in his 1994 book, The Robots Rebellion.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Icke

Feel free to suggest that Icke is as pure as the driven snow, but that text was pretty much Goebbels favorite speech! Hitler also mentions them in Mein Kampf, and they were taught to German children once Adolf took control, pretty much softening the kids up for what came later.

Icke is an absolute tool if he didn't know that before he put 'The Protocols' in his book, because it is one of the most famous conspiracy theories going, and a tool who flirts with anti-semitism to peddle his bizarre theories, if he didn't. Feel free to tell me which... lol

I'm all for speech being as free as possible, but it isn't unconditional.

It's not even a conspiracy theory, it's proven as a disgraceful lie.

One of the most tiresome tropes (amongst many) that conspiracy theorists like to trot out is "follow the money". Do that and you'll find it leads to Icke's million pound mansion on the Isle of Wight or Alex Jones's fifteen acre ranch.

The people that perpetrate this tripe at the top of the tree churn out conspiracy to order - it's nothing more that a lucrative production line and those that they prey upon are the low hanging fruit ripe for the plucking - the scientifically ignorant, critically impaired and highly gullible.

The internet and the post truth era has immeasurably compounded the problem.

Flat earth theory is becoming common thanks to the Internet.

Scary stuff.

Whatever happen to the Illuminati?

A few years ago you couldn’t move on the internet for people blaming the Illuminati.

Now you hardly ever hear of them.

Did they pack up and go home?

Weird.

The guy is on the right track but I'm afraid all this lizard stuff is total claptrap ...    he knows something is wrong but doesn't really know what it is.   I, on the other hand do, the world is about to be taken over by PANDA MEN ...    (I caught a picture of one once) ...   and they are in cahoots with PIGEON MEN, who act as there eyes and ears ...   the sooner you lot wake up to it the better.      And if anyone wants to know more please send me a cheque for £100 and I'll send you a pamphlet I've written all about it ...   :)

If anyone finds conspiracy theorists more interesting than conspiracy theories, by the way, this is one of my favourite books:

http://www.jonronson.com/them.html

Is a great read.

Bit in there about David Icke as well as Omar Bakri, the KKK, Rev Paisley and a whole load of other pretty colourful characters.

The general focus is extremists but a hell of a lot of them (ironically, both jihadis and white supremacists) have antisemitism in common.

Sounds like the conspiracy version of Heretics by Will Storr. Also fantastic, goes off trotting with fringe weirdos like UFO spotters, homeopaths and yoga healers.

Not sure why anyone wouldn't enjoy listening to conspiracy theorists rant and rave. I religiously listen to the lizard people podcast and some of those are great laughs.

Because as Finners correctly observes - it's the background noise. Almost invariably the conspiracy theory itself is simply a vehicle for an ugly agenda much of which is anti semitic. The entire industry, which is what it has become, feeds upon ignorance, feat and prejudice. And when you have swathes of the American populace refusing to vaccinate their kids because of Jenny McCarthy or Jim Carey's Twitter feed it's beyond a case of these these dumb ****s making idiots of themselves. Many of those opportunistic con artists that perpetrate this garbage have blood on their hands.

Yeah Ronson's done similar as well, he's written hundreds of Guardian articles and a fair few have been expanded in to books.

You'd probably really enjoy him if you like Storr. Ronson's probably a bit funnier but they're both in the same niche.

I don't disagree that conspiracy theorists are dangerous when people buy in to them, particularly when it comes to questions of medicine; but as a form of comedy it's hilarious. People shouldn't take it seriously, but then again they shouldn't take Al Murray seriously and yet ukip are basically his act as a political party

Edit: to make the point of how hilarious it is, recent episodes of lizard people have discussed whether Mother Teresa was a CIA operative, is Stevie Wonder really blind, Darth Jar Jar, does the government pay conspiracy theorists to sound stupid to hide real conspiracies and did the world actually end in 2000.

I love that I asked where the Illuminati have gone, only later that day for a political row to emerge about Jezza's comment on an image which is both massively anti-Semitic and contains our old friend the "eye on the pyramid".

The world is back to normal. Bonkers normal.
