Ha ha Sky Sports Centre obsessed with Leicester connections...started their 5.30 news item with Nigel Pearson or Craig Shakespeare as favorites.....Couple of minutes later it’s Michael Appleton ?????

Posted (edited)

IMO,it would be prudent for Appleton,to stay around City for 1-2 seasons more.

He only started this season, why if not forced should he become, just another

Journeyman.3 seasons of successful period at PL level means, youve got better

experience and high football coaching qualifications has your Basis.

1st build yourself a strong reputable Reputation.

Go of half-cock now, then onto a possible slider, too early..IMO hes better than that.

The West Brom job wouldn't be a smart move. They're all but a Championship side now and a bit of a poisoned chalice. Can see their squad getting picked apart and looked into a little bit:

1) A load of their 'elder statesmen'/stalwart players out of contract - McAuley, Myhill, Barry, Brunt, Yacob, Morrison

2) Rumours of one of their bigger assets in Jonny Evans having a peanuts £3million release clause

3) Several home grown assets with top flight profile that will be attractive to multiple PL clubs - Livermore, Burke, Phillips, Rodriguez, Dawson, Gibbs

4) They have Krychowiak and Sturridge on loan - won't retain either

Obviously not saying all of those players will go and there are others in the squad more likely to command a move but things don't look too rosy. Stick around Appleton.

Not sure why he's mentioned as favourite with Craig Shakespeare available. Think Craig would love a Championship job.

Honestly didn't realise they'd paid a lump sum of 3.5 million just to have Sturridge on loan for half a season, and their paying most of his 120,000 a week wages as well, absolutely baffling business

He's only been on the pitch 77 minutes for them!

quite clear he'll stay here, he's almost certainly next in line if anything bad happens with Puel.

Are we the only club with this 'promote within' mentality?

Micky Adams

Rob Kelly

Craig Shakespeare

Michael Appleton - being suggested should anything happen with Puel.

I can't think of many clubs that promote within as much as we have/we suggest should. Most assistants and coaches go with the manager when they get sacked but rightly or wrongly we very rarely do that.

I think Appleton should stay and I think he's an integral part of the current set up, for starters I can only imagine Puel explains what he wants to Appleton and he explains in better English/passes it on to the players and also gees the players up because I simply can't get my head around or imagine Puel doing any of it, but to suggest Appleton should take over should we give Puel the push, no, just no.

Still better value for money compared to Slimani and Newcastle! :giggle:

(I'm led to believe they paid us a £2m loan fee plus his wages in full - I'm not sure if anyone can confirm the loan fee or not?)

I think Appleton can and will do a good job as a Championship manager but he has to pick his club wisely & I don't think WBA that is that club.

They'll also have to pay us compensation if they want Appleton, it will be more than whatever we paid Oxford (500k?). Do they have enough funds? Shakey on the other hand will most likely be a free agent this summer, and arguably has a better CV.

They are certainly not a "poisoned chalice" everyone knows how shit they are and that they are going down and they are in financial disaster.

Its a very obvious Pearson job

It's a big club for him to take over and they will have money to spend with the parachute payments, although some balancing of the books will be needed I'm sure, although a few player sales will also free up some cash.

I'd be tempted if I was him, although if he fails, then he could struggle to get a job above League 1 or 2, and have to prove himself again.

Pearson would be absolutely superb for them.

Depending on the size of the rebuilding job, they might not bounce back straight away. But he'd cut the wage bill, trim the squad and bring in round pegs for round holes. It wouldn't be long before they're stabilised for the long term and back in the big time again.

The only problem would be their owners may demand instant success.

I thought that when he went to Derby!

I personally think Pearson needs Walsh and Shakey to be a success again. If he can get those two to join him, then he could do very well.
