Jesus... You said 'Rich people don't pay tax'. Not 'rich people don't pay the absolute maximum they could pay'.

Ok, so I exaggerated, but I was responding to SAF who claimed he will be paying 45k in tax.

If it’s legal it’s not tax avoidance. If you avoid tax then it’s not legal. These days the tax offices across Europe talk to each other and everyone pays their dues. The days of dodgy offshore etc are well and truly over. Football clubs among other high earning businesses are under scrutiny more than anyone because of the huge sums the HRMC want to get their hands on.

I hate to be pedantic (actually, I don't, I'm lying) but you are describing tax evasion - tax avoidance is perfectly legal.

Just a little! And by exaggerating you will have ended up being 'more wrong' than SAF

He is on PAYE they all are and the base salary of 100k per week according to HMRC is as follows:

Your estimated take-home pay for 2018 to 2019 is

£53,207.23 a week

Players have clubs pay a proportion of their wages into image rights companies. So instantly they pay corporation tax rates rather than highest tax band rates. That's just one little fiddle they have going on.

Well, I can't argue with the logic of that since even if he pays a penny in tax I would have been 100% wrong (and as a notorious pedant, I admire your pedantry); However, the principle of what I said remains and I stand by it.

My point was less pedantic than you thought...

What I'm saying is that I'm sure the effective tax rate he ends up paying will be closer to SAF's 45% than your (exaggerated) 0%. I don't believe even the cleverest accountant will be able find 'offsets' for nearly half of Mahrez week wage. I'd guess somewhere in the range 35-40%

(and to be super, self-annoyingly pedantic, no-one pays 45% tax since it only kicks in after £150,000 p/a)

I think the Jacko gif is a bit premature on this one Houston.  Should preserve him for when the handbags are well and truly out

This tiff hasnt got past the pedantry section of the speedometer which I reckon is in the area of about 60 degrees max

Jacko eating pop-corn has got to be for when things go over the 90 degree mark

Something wrong there. The money still has to go from the company to the person, at which point it's liable to personal income tax.

Are these companies wholly owned by the players?

I'll happily take your word for that but I never said that was the rate - it was SAF.

You also have an excellent avatar with Arseface. Love Preacher, one of my favourite comic runs of all time.

Ah man, she is perfect for things just starting to hot up.  The itchy anticipation, the desperate will to see something with just a bit of promise develop into full blown FT argument porn.

We should have a graph so we can scale this stuff really

It is indeed. TV Series is pretty good, but not as good as comic. I understand this comment makes me look like an utter bell, and I don't care.

Also works as a subtle dig at @Buce I imagine he is preposterously ugly.
