You would think so wouldn't you, when he signed the contract we didn't have an in house lawyer working for us though.

I'm not saying there's foul play afoot however you do wonder if there is loose wording in the clause which means he may be due to compensation in the circumstances. I know another incident was caused that summer due to a similar issue.

The club uses some good (and in some instances, some not so good) law firms for years.

General Counsel is usually hired where legal spend for a business is a bit higher than the board would like. The vast majority of work is still outsourced. Though, it would be a surprise for a new GC to pick up one deal to understand the process before engaging the external firms.

i would be very surprised if the club entered any contracts without a corporate lawyers say so. The indemnity insurance would most probably breached as a result.

Unfortuantely, loose drafting is the shit side of the commercial lawyers profession. Happens to the best of us. Some superstar corporate partners have been caught out by it. If Ruskin was task with negotiation the fine print, without legal training, that cannot be his fault - rather the person who told him to do it. Again, I doubt this is the case.

The club will tell him to stay at home if he's still here next Monday when Leicester's pre season starts. The only reason he's still here if reports are to be believed is because he's still fighting with Leicester about his £7.5m "loyalty bonus". The club won't want him here when he's 90%+ gone and also we don't need him doing his cruciate or something serious training and costing the club a fortune.

Man City start their pre season a week later on the 9th July, I'd imagine he'll have been told by Guardiola that if he wants to be a Man City player he'll have to have sorted his dispute with Leicester over money by then otherwise his move may be in jeopardy. He'll want his better non World Cup players to hold the fort the first three weeks of the season and doesn't want Mahrez rocking up a couple of weeks after.

I'd imagine they've given Mahrez another week to sort this out and then he'll have to make his mind up what's more important to him. His new career at Man City or a few million quid?

The big problem is IF he is still here on Monday, that means we haven't sorted his replacement out. And from what i gather and to keep in line with FFP, we need to sell him 1st

So we will be starting our pre-season without the new guy, which isn't really ideal.

I don't see it as a big problem at all. We already have three new signings which is more than most and I'm convinced the Mahrez saga will be sorted out one way or another in about a week as Man City won't allow him to drag it out with Leicester over money when their pre season starts on the 9th July.

I was perhaps exaggerating when i said 'big problem' but its not ideal. I would have liked pre season to start with the all deals done and our main 11 to be signed and sorted. Especially the Mahrez replacement.

Ideally perhaps but no Premier League club has done all their business this summer and the World Cup will cause disruption for all the clubs. As i've said I'm convinced Man City will be putting pressure on Mahrez to have his "loyalty bonus" sorted out with Leicester in the next week. They'll want him ready for pre season training a week on Monday so I think the time decay favours Leicester as Mahrez can't afford to sit tight and demand his money and put his whole career at risk.

Part of me wouldn’t mind a half arsed moody Mahrez still here next season.

Even when he’s not on top of his game he’s still capable of a moment of magic and changing a game.

But by all accounts it sounds like he’s off.

He’s going, obvs. I just hope we’re not going to spend the season saying “we never really replaced Mahrez”. I can see this line banded about each time we don’t win.

It could just be that a couple of our targets are involved in the World Cup so wouldn’t be at pre-season training yet anyway. Mahrez does need to go pronto though, everyone is dying a very slow death reading this thread.

Not sure why one player missing is a problem. The 10 at the WC is more of the problem.

My dream would be to play for Leicester for free.  Puts this all this into perpective - 100k a week over a period of 6 years, life sorted.  Greed is a funny thing. Do Algerian graveyards have ATM’s?

On the bright side for Riyad, if he's loyal (by staying) then he might get that loyalty bonus he was after. Save him a fortune in legal fees too.

One week of that wage would be my life sorted.
