On the bright side for Riyad, if he's loyal (by staying) then he might get that loyalty bonus he was after. Save him a fortune in legal fees too.

I doubt his lawyer is ‘no win no fee’ ..... he is already well out of pocket !!!

I find it incredible (and, frankly, unbelievable) that we're effectively in a 'who blinks first' competition. Seriously, there must be more to this hold up than this supposed standoff.

My dream would be to play for Leicester for free.  Puts this all this into perpective - 100k a week over a period of 6 years, life sorted.  Greed is a funny thing. Do Algerian graveyards have ATM’s?

lol until you see a player with a fraction of your ability getting 60k a week. Then and only then you would understand that it's not just greed. The self-righteousness in those worlds is intoxicating.

People really acting like they don't know the basics of economics! Your value is determined by your production. and in this case, your sporting image and the value you add to the company (in this case, the club). Mahrez at the very least adds 50-60 million to the club's value and international rep with just his name (let alone his productivity on the pitch). He is in a vacuum (when you take out the nationality and pro club out of the picture) when compared to other players and the current market, a 100 million pound player (and maybe more). What is 100K when you put it into perspective? he's a 200k+ a week player.

Surely it isn't? You would rather play for Leicester for free than play for them and earn a decent wage that you could live on at the same time? I mean it's your dream so there's no wrong answer.

Are we hard balling on price and waiting for him not to turn up for pre season therefore breaching his contract and losing his loyalty claim?

Well it’s about 55k after tax ..............

How can anyone possibly live on that?      LCFC should be ashamed of themselves for paying their employees below the minimum wage.

Is he?  No wonder things have stalled, this guy comes accross as useless in terms of negioting and sealing the deal.

Rich people don't pay tax, they pay clever accountants.

It’s much harder for players to avoid their taxes (they are employees rather than company owners) as their earnings are quite public .......

If you're talking about people domiciled in the UK it's a bit of a myth anyway. HMRC have really tightened the noose and are very actively going after people retrospectively, with very large penalties if they find dodgy behaviour. They're also happy to go after accountancy firms who facilitate it.

There are plenty of legal ways to avoid tax.

If you think Mahrez is paying 45% tax, you are very naive.

He is on PAYE they all are and the base salary of 100k per week according to HMRC is as follows:

Your estimated take-home pay for 2018 to 2019 is

£53,207.23 a week

Jesus... You said 'Rich people don't pay tax'. Not 'rich people don't pay the absolute maximum they could pay'.

He will only pay tax on taxable income.

A good accountant will ensure that his taxable income is way less than a hundred grand.

If it’s legal it’s not tax avoidance. If you avoid tax then it’s not legal. These days the tax offices across Europe talk to each other and everyone pays their dues. The days of dodgy offshore etc are well and truly over. Football clubs among other high earning businesses are under scrutiny more than anyone because of the huge sums the HRMC want to get their hands on.
