Voll Blau Posted 18 June 2018 Share Posted 18 June 2018 Amazing the lengths some will go to give the Thais infallible status. Wookie's absolutely spot on in his even-handed assessment and yet gets nowt but grief for it. They can do no wrong for some, but the players who actually won the title have been fair game for way over the top abuse any time they've had a shit day/spell of form ever since? Proper double standards at work in our fanbase. 2

HighPeakFox Posted 18 June 2018 Share Posted 18 June 2018 Sadly, there are many people who equate constructive criticism with hatred. It is one of the huge problems of our times.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 18 June 2018 Share Posted 18 June 2018 Nobody's perfect, and of course the owners aren't getting involved due to a life long love of LCFC - their prime interest is King Power and why wouldn't it be? However, the knock on effect of the Srividni Srivadinaph Thais getting involved with our club has been almost universally positive for LCFC and the success we've had this decade has been founded on the money they've invested in us. So really, they get an easy ride compared to how other foreign owners are treated by the fans of other clubs, and rightfully so, as they actually run LCFC sensibly. richardsfoxes Posted 18 June 2018 Share Posted 18 June 2018 How can anyone moan about our owners, we we're in the championship and league one for what 12-13 years? ffs we didn't even own our own stadium before they came in...Premier league title, championship title, champions league, new training ground complex, stadium expansion, financial security, exciting future the list goes on and on. Voll Blau Posted 18 June 2018 Share Posted 18 June 2018 1 hour ago, Gerbold said: But you and Wookie seem to be doing the same thing - on the other hand. Take the Sris out of the equation and where would the Club have been. They (or he) provided the confidence that come with the promise of money. That's not to be underestimated. City are a team that can now attract a certain level of player...and resist being obliged to sell them. I really don't know what more Sri could have done for the club. Perhaps you have an answer to that - which I would gladly read. I don't disagree with much of your post, but I just find the hyperbolic nature of the "they won us the league" type posts a bit laughable. They landed on their feet with Pearson agreeing to come back to rebuild a base and club culture he'd already been building once before, then with the Ranieri appointment too and everything that followed. Providing a solid financial base and being willing to invest in the club you own should be the minimum required of anyone running a football club (not that spending big has exactly helped us much when we've done it). Just because there are so many bad'uns out there, it doesn't make those who are generally good - like the Thais - immune from criticism over certain things. Popular Post inckley fox Posted 18 June 2018 Popular Post Share Posted 18 June 2018 22 hours ago, Nickfosse said: Do you think we would have won the league without our owners? There are lots of people we couldn't have won it without. Had Peter Hodge not turned us into a proper club in the 1920s, instead of the one that kept being bankrupted and was going the way of Glossop, we wouldn't have. Had Jock Wallace not turned us around in the late 70s, we were set for a very different trajectory. The same goes for Brian Little who, on a shoestring, made us contenders again in the 90s at a time when we had a poorer team and equivalent attendances to Plymouth, Port Vale, Millwall, Cambridge United, Luton etc. We could have followed their path instead. You can even credit Tony James for averting that disaster. Or you can credit Micky Adams for keeping heads above water and ensuring we could pay the bills by winning a short-lived promotion. Without that, without Mandaric later, we might not have had a club. I'm sure couldn't have won it without the current owners. They invested very well for the second tier and amended some of their earlier Eriksson-era errors. That enabled Pearson and Walsh to build. And they were right to bring in Ranieri, it turned out. But the bigger contribution would seem to lie not in the amount they spent on the league winning side, but rather those who spent it and managed to uncover the best part of 200m in talent (in Vardy, Mahrez, Drinkwater, Kante) for just 8m. They weren't Jack Walker or Roman Abramovich, they were modest investors with - for a while - great managers in charge, one of which had been great for us some time before they turned up. Pearson's set-up was largely responsible for this recruitment of talent, and he took us up two divisions and kept us up too. So if you want a figure who was, above all else, essential for our finest hour, I'd look at him. Or, perhaps, Vardy and Mahrez themselves, who turned out to be much better than he'd have imagined. That said, I've always been clear that - from a leadership perspective - Ranieri won the league. Others had a bigger role in making it possible, but he won it.
