Let’s not be ****wits and just accept the fact Rafa is a top manager. You can’t ignore the fact that Newcastle is a poorly run club, and Rafa has essentially had Mike Ashley strangling him ever since he signed. He’s done a ****ing fantastic job there and should be lauded for how he’s managed to keep going despite that fat greasy bastard restricting everything they do. He’s thrice the manager Puel could ever be, Puel is not even defensive, he is just shite.

Benitez has done a brilliant job at Newcastle. You aren't coaching that squad into anything entertaining and effective.

He would get more out of this squad than Puel in my eyes.

Historically Rafa plays a defensive system where ever he goes. He specializes in parking the bus much like JM does even with talented sides. Leicester would win on a regular basis with Benitez but it would not be pretty football. I guess it all depends what you are looking for, Man U win but the fans are not happy with the football being played. I personally want entertaining football.

I grant you that the performances there have nog been great but you look the personnel of the squad, there's little he could do. But base it on what he's done there over the last few years, okay first season relegation, not his fault brought in far too late with something like four or five games to go with club being five points from safety. Second season they bounced straight back up managing to keep some of their players. Third season on a small budget they finish tenth and in there first season back.

And yet despite a lack of budget Rafa still decides that players like Joselu, Muto and Rondon are going to bang in the goals when they haven’t really done that to any extent in their careers. At the same time he offloads a useful English striker, capped at U21 (Armstrong) to The Championship on the cheap. Not sure this is what I’d want from my manager.

Most of that squad (who you point out aren’t entertaining or effective)  he has bought in though?

The more I think about it, the more I reckon David Wagner would be a great appointment for us. He's a good age, has the kind of personality our fans would appreciate and he's done an absolutely incredible job at Huddersfield when you think about where they were when he arrived.

He'd be my number 1 pick right now. Still genuinely hopeful that it gels for Puel but I'm becoming increasingly less confident that it will.

The one thing that you can’t forgive or forget about Wagner is he actually picked Benny Hamer over Danish International Lossl at the start of this season and only an injury ended the insanity.

Been saying this for a couple of years. He was also Rudkins first choice.

Hamer moved to be a number 1 keeper. Wagner knew he would be no.2. Gave him the shirt for a couple of games, allowed him to be bad. Took away said shirt now he’s the number 2.

He’s your dream, certainly not mine.

Ok mate. He’s a lot of people’s dream. I never said he was mine although I think you’ll find he’s better than Puel.

a few names people have said would be half decent options if we did get rid of Puel, but theyd have to get the results straight the way and play half decent football etc

since some of our fanbase have got patience or anything so they could well be on the chopping block within a month tho:ph34r:

A lot of people must dream about defensive football then, because that’s what Rafa will bring. Rafa actually pushed out Alonso at Liverpool and replaced him with Lucas you know?

I thought Aqualani was the Alonso replacement. But yeah, Rafa is uber defensive. If people found Feb-May last season boring they'd be even more bored under Rafa. None on that list look particularly appealing.

Rafa Benitez is starting to look like an unhealthy obsession for us

For the fifth time this week, no one is going to appoint Benitez as along as they have to pay £6 million to release him from his Newcastle contract

6 million isn't really that much when you think about it

But Rafa has also never walked out on a contract, he must really stand by his principles on this as well as he works for the most niggardly owner of a Premier League football club I can remember.

I'd love to have him here but no chance of it occurring until the summer.

And our defence is water tight. Yes?

Another thing to put out there about Rafa. He bombed Mitrovic out at Newcastle (the same player who now has 24 goals in his last 31 games for club and country) and actually paid a few million to loan Slimani from us last season. Wtf.
