There won’t be anyone left in L1 at this rate. Seems as though there’s been a number of arrests this season.

Seemed like there were more than 2 people being taken away from that area during the Crystal Palace game.

Do you two think homophobic abuse should be allowed?

I think, go to a football game and dont  take every  chant to heart,

I wouldn't shout abuse at someone for the sake of their sexuality myself, but are you that much of a deluded idealistic to assume abuse in any form can be stopped? Being abused should strengthen your resolve to show the ****ers up mate... let's not be so sensitive

I'd rather not have to 'strengthen my resolve' just because some knuckle dragger decides to shout abuse at me because I have the audacity to love someone of the same gender, if you don't mind.

I don't get the " phobia " bit, I mean why would anyone be scared of a homsexual?

Translated literally it means 'fear of', but language evolves with cultural changes and phrases take on subtly different meanings. If you translated it as 'an aversion to' it's a lot more in line with its current meaning.

And if you look at how LGBT people were treated in the 80s during the AIDs epidemic, 'fear of homosexuals' is a very apt description indeed.

This thread..:ermm:

On the bright side, every time we have a thread on this topic it seems to be 95% positive responses, thankfully. Hate to think what the majority opinion would have been even 15-20 years ago...

Did anyone say it should be stopped? In the same way you cannot stop any other type of crime. Punishment for it is a different matter though, surely you'd agree with that?

True, and that did cross my mind.

That being said, I'm confident nothing will happen. I couldn't tell them for sure who it was (other than a block of 5-6 seats behind me), and even if they could identify the individual there's not a lot they can do to change anything - banning him would be overly excessive and other actions likely won't have any effect.

As a gay man we tend to develop a thick skin when we hear such comments, and by-and-large the natural response is to ignore it, particularly as that type of individual is becoming fewer in number. I'm not saying that's the right course of action, but to me its understandable.

That said, I'll drop the club an email this evening.

Message Foxespride on twitter if you are on there, Jim does a really good job of looking into this sort of thing.

If Brighton fans sang "does your girlfriend know you're here?", would that count as heterophobic abuse?

Or if they sang "we pay for your benefits", would that count as monetarism?

A true Bastian of moral integrity you are. I happen to think otherwise. Think of me what you will. I don't think any less of you in any way because of your opinions. Have a nice day

Once a year this comes up and it never fails to amaze me.

Poor Mark and the rest of the mods have to deal with the fall out when some idiot posts something absurd.

No because that would not happen.

If you want to see the opinion of 20 odd years ago pop over to Bentleys roof and look at the replies on a similar thread to this one.

How the **** is that homophobic?

That's well homophobic, it's like saying non sandy beaches are gay. Which they're not they're just not as good as sandy beaches.
