Also Is telling someone to shove a clapper up their arse homophobic? Gay, straight, male or female I'd have thought it would be universally unpleasant?

You haven t seen much internet, some would say that act was tame

Heaven forbid some one told someone else to shove something up their arse at the football. You wouldn't have enjoyed it very much in pen 1 at Filbo street!

No, it definitely hurts more if you’re straight ?

If I was next to the Brighton fans my agenda would be different ... my chant would be..

"Why is it eight quid for fish and chips in Brighton and only four ninety five just down the coast"

Wtf where are you buying fish and chips for £4:95?

What about my selective abuse that I've received inthe past, I've had it over directed at me from away fans

stuff like "I'd rather be Simon Weston than Ginger"

Where is the line drawn?

Never quite sure tbh ...   but i do know it's always drawn in pencil ..  that way it can easily be rubbed out and moved on a regular basis ..

You have to be a bit of a melt to do this. Sure, chant away about the opposition team... consider  chanting/ supporting your own team maybe aswell?

but to get personal like that?

You have to be a knuckle-dragging melt to think  that’s ok...

Cant speak for those arrested last night as I have no idea of their comments/chants but chants like "Does your boyfriend know you're here" & "We can see you holding hands" are not homophobic rants but humorous banter, mostly laughed off by Brighton fans.

You only have to go to any of the politically correct watered down shows at this years Leicester comedy festival to see what the PC brigade are achieving.

Heres a thought, just never shout dirty poofs at anyone, ever?

You're missing my point here, why operate zero tolerance just for one club? is homophobic abuse against brighton worse than against huddersfield for example?

Good to hear it was taken seriously. A no tolerance approach needs to be taken across the entire footballing pyramid.

Agreed, I have a  low tolerance toward homosexuals...sick of seeing game shows, auction programs etc. etc. where two "blokes" are introduced and one is introduced as the others "wife".

Didn't hear anything directed at the Brighton fans tonight, but I was at the opposite end of the ground this time so that's hardly surprising...

What did disappoint me was the bloke behind me constantly referring to Maddison as a f****t, queer, and claiming he was sticking his arse in the air when he fell over waiting for someone to jump on him. I didn't say anything as I'm not the confrontational type and was on my own, but it's really disappointing that we still have neanderthals like that in our fan Base. Just 3 days after the football V homophobia fixture, too... :(

There are posters up with a number you can ring for people who don't want to confront idiots like that. You could phone the club today and report it.

That should read 'should' not 'could'.

So you're saying save the homophobic stuff for Spurs and the anti-semitic stuff for Brighton?

The real question I have is why do you seem to have a problem with implementing a zero tolerance policy for abuse in any circumstance?

I don't have a problem with implementing zero tolerance, my point is why do Brighton get special treatment? If we're in agreement that homophobic abuse doesn't belong in the football ground, then why do we only operate this stance for one club? Is Brighton the only club in the league with gay fans?

True, and that did cross my mind.

That being said, I'm confident nothing will happen. I couldn't tell them for sure who it was (other than a block of 5-6 seats behind me), and even if they could identify the individual there's not a lot they can do to change anything - banning him would be overly excessive and other actions likely won't have any effect.

As a gay man we tend to develop a thick skin when we hear such comments, and by-and-large the natural response is to ignore it, particularly as that type of individual is becoming fewer in number. I'm not saying that's the right course of action, but to me its understandable.

That said, I'll drop the club an email this evening.

Brighton get special treatment not because of who they are/might be, but because of how they have been treated in the past.

The stance is the same for every club that comes to the KP, but that stance needs to be emphasised when clubs like Brighton come here who have historically received more abuse than others.

Theoretically speaking, if I were to put a clapper in my backside and broke wind... Would it... Y'know? Could cause a few surprises in the office, is all I'm saying.

Real talk, though: There was an article in "iNews" recently about just how pervasive it is at the stadium and how it continues to go unpunished, despite repeated reporting to the club. It's 2019. It's really quite depressing.

And unfortunately, judging by some of the responses and reactions here, we still have quite a way to go.

I wouldn't shout abuse at someone for the sake of their sexuality myself, but are you that much of a deluded idealistic to assume abuse in any form can be stopped? Being abused should strengthen your resolve to show the ****ers up mate... let's not be so sensitive

Perhaps it cant be stopped entirely, but if one person is to learn from their actions then in my eyes its worth the trouble of trying.
