Getting us out of League One at the first attempt was the best thing he did.

But he did say something a bit silly in an interview so all that counts for nothing..

And pinned an opposition player to the ground, and the "FOAD" at a supporter.. and constant denial and arrogance in interviews at OHL this season.

I think he was brilliant in that interview with Pat Murphy btw. Top bloke for standing up to that verbal attack.

So, I'm not anti-Pearson per se, but I do have my own opinions of him. And I realise there a several on here who just simply will not hear a bad word said, I've seen that over the past few years.

Literally everything you have said in this thread contradicts that statement

Slagging off Pearson is like going to Buckingham Palace and talking shit about the Queen to her Queen’s Guard.

Really shouldn’t act surprised when you get called out for slagging off the bloke who saved our club

I see you didn't bold-up 'per se'.

Per se is used when talking about the qualities of one thing considered on its own, rather than in connection with other things.

But like others on this thread, you only want to pick out bits that suit your own agenda.

And, anyway, not literally everything I have said contradicts that statement. You don't appear to want to read it all. As I say, just picking out the bits you want. That's a very blinkered approach. If you're going to have a pop at someone for expressing an opinion, at least be accurate.

Yes, so I see.

Shame on me :(

Hmm isn’t that what you’re doing regarding Pearson.

I’m not sure why any LCFC fan would judge Pearson’s contribution to the development of LCFC by his exploits elsewhere.

Me neither.

"The format of the league was very difficult to be a success with".

That's him in a nutshell.

Finish top or near the top - you could go up.

Finish near the bottom - you may go down.

Very difficult Nigel. Struggle to get your head round that and you are not just an idiot, but also somebody who thinks they can pull the wool over people's eyes.

Absolutely no correlation with anything to do with his contribution to the development of LCFC.

But they do, Davie.

"Yeah but he was rubbish at Derby and in Belgium..."

As if that devalues what he did for us.

Some odd 'uns in our fanbase.

Certainly not wrong there Geoff.

Off-topic, but while you're on...

What happened to your 'Up The League' slot on TalkSport? I used to enjoy that. Is it a permanent move handing the EFL reviews over to The Moose?

Nowhere near as knowledgeable as you on the subject.

Probably get brickbats for this now an all

When I started lurking on FT, I was shocked at the extremes of opinion about Pearson.  That won’t change until we all die off will it?

I’ll always respect this man who was managing a club on the up when I took an interest.  Most of you saw that whole process, so have a deeper appreciation than me.  What I don’t understand is the "cult following", still lighting candles and fervently wishing him back.

Consider a top-half PL club, the 16th most valuable in the world.  Its current mission: keep improving a €400 million squad, to compete with the titans (squads valued either side of €1 billion) for places in the UEFA leagues.

Obviously that club is us, and obviously Pearson had lots to do with us getting there.  However -- even with his LCFC stints gold-plating his CV -- that CV wouldn’t sniff an interview for that mission.  He’s flat-out got it wrong on some other jobs.  The real world awaits a club to decide that Nigel Graham Pearson is what they need.

You’d think that would be a Championship club with room to grow and a two- or three-year mandate.  Assuming that kind of job still exists.

UTL finished when talkSPORT2 took over doing EFL stuff and they had their own guys, far better than me.

My own views on The Moose, and the views on him from others in the media, are probably best left unsaid.

Any manager is only assessed on his last job despite the fact that they may well have been the right person in the right place at the right time.

Yes Nigel came to us highly respected having earned his stripes at various clubs as coach or assistant (including England under 21 under stuart pearce) and a brief stint at Soton and proved himself an instant hit by getting us promoted.  In his second stint he won the championship, taking the league by storm, and rightly takes some of the credit for signing many of the players that formed the basis of the legends squad. People eulogize about the great escape but we should never forget that we got ourselves into that position in the first place and were looking doomed at xmas.  The fact that he has not been able to reproduce that elsewhere however goes to prove my point.

Claudio came in and what happened next is History. The following season, apart from the CL exploits, things started to fall apart, again proving that you sometimes just need the stars to align (or get slightly out of kilter) for things to happen.

The league is littered with managers who had a purple patch when it looked as if everything they touched would turn to gold but have become also rans in the merry-go-round. Even our very own "Messiah" MON, touted as the hottest young managerial property around at the time and a real coup appointment for us lost his way in his latter jobs.

Similarly we have had appointed managers in the past on the back of great reputations but have not done it here (Sven comes to mind)

Should judge them on what they did or not do for us alone or on the longer term wider picture.  Sometimes someone is the right fit and at others not. We should be balanced and base our judgments not on sentiment alone but taking all factors and circumstances into account.

Why does everything on here turn into comparisons or "wahhh I don't like him". Boring.

Anybody that has successfully contributed to this club doesn't get knocked from me. Some of the worse games I've ever been to were under Ranieri during that second season but since he achieved with us and has since left I respect him for the job he did here.

We have a strange fan base.

Pearson was the right man at the right time for us.

As was Claudio.

Just because Ranieri was subsequently shiite at Fulham, it doesn't detract from that one magical season he led us.

You've managed to write a very long post there without saying anything of note. No one is calling Pearson the greatest managerial mind of his generation. What he did FOR US was incredible and is why a lot of us worship the bloke.

Paulo Sousa has gone on to have a very good managerial career - he's arguably had a better career than Nige, and is arguably the better manager. Does that mean we should all really like him or what? His tenure here was shite and I've got no love for him at all.

Ade Akinbiyi?

Yann Kermorgant?

Islam Slimani?

I'd say they all made contributions to the club, sometimes important ones, yet they get some serious abuse on here. It's just a lack of empathy really. I think all of the above tried their best for us, in fact with the exception of a very few players (Wise, Bednar, Larrson spring to mind), most have.

We haven't had any player or manager that deserves any real animosity for a while, which is why I direct all mine at Ian Stringer now.

I’m not really that interested in what ex managers and ex players achieve only what they do or have done for us. My one exception would be Leicester born players or those that have come through our academy.

That’s how I judge them.

I meant good contributions obviously. The only people in recent times that should get hatred thrown their way are Wise and Taylor. Maybe Mattock too but probably not given how his career panned out compared to the club's progression in the same time. How people can't like Pearson is staggering given what he did for us.

I remember watching Nige being interviewed on tv and he looked really uncomfortable (it was prior to the FOAD events etc); fair play to him that he is now in a position where he needs to set his stall out and show that he is objective abiut the past etc... and fair play for him for being able to engage with the media without looking like a defensive bitter type.  I hope he gets a reasonable job soon - wba would be great as would middlesborough.

I’m not going to quote some post on here, as some still seem bitter towards him.

Those that have been around the forum for a while will well know I was never a fan of Pearson, but time’s moved on.

The man got us back in the premier league, and for me that’s where he got out of his depth, and imo he couldn’t handle the pressure, that’s why he acted like a loony, he always came across as arrogant imo, but it got silly in the end.

His sacking was the right thing, and he left under a cloud, but respect for the guy, he worked for the owners again, and seems to be respectful about city, and probably still has affection for us.

I have stated before I think he’s lost without Shakespeare as his no 2, and his career has failed since leaving us, but I would never want him to manage us again, and it’s nice to hear him praise Rodgers, and hope he’s successful again in the future

The ONLY thing our owners have got wrong, in a really bizarre move, was setting that clown back on again.

But tbf, it's a difficult format that league. Maybe Top and Vichai didn't factor that in.

This is why I’ve stopped logging on on here so often
