Report: Newcastle see Hamza Choudhury loan bid rejected by Leicestermm
ByJordan HarrisPublished on January 19, 2020SHARETWEET
Newcastle United and Burnley have both had loan bids for Hamza Choudhury rejected by Leicester City, according to a report from the Sunday People (19/1; page 49).

The Magpies have pulled further away from the bottom three in the Premier League with a dramatic win over Chelsea.

Nevertheless, Steve Bruce will be hoping that the January window can give them the tools to put even more daylight between themselves and the relegation zone.

Unfortunately for the Magpies however, it appears that one of their bids has been knocked back by a Premier League rival.

The Sunday People (19/1; page 49) reports that the Foxes have rejected bids from both Newcastle and the Clarets for Choudhury.

The report notes that Brendan Rodgers wants to keep the 22-year-old at the King Power Stadium so has turned down the chance to offload him on loan.

Choudhury has made 13 Premier League appearances this season. But he has started just six times for the high-flying Foxes. So you could understand why Newcastle and Burnley were tempted to try their luck.

TBR View – Bruce’s interest perhaps surprising
It is interesting that Bruce is keen on Choudhury given what happened when Newcastle played Leicester in the Carabao Cup back in August.

Choudhury was booked for a challenge on Matt Ritchie that kept the midfielder out until January.

Bruce later described the challenge as potentially career-ending had Ritchie not attempted to back out. He insisted that the Leicester man was a very good player, but suggested that he needed to cut that out of his game, in comments reported by the Guardian.

The Newcastle boss was reportedly adamant that the youngster should have been sent off on that occasion.

And it appears that the Leicester man has now caused Bruce even more frustration after the Magpies reportedly made a bid to bring him to St James’ Park.

I think hamza would benefit greatly from 14 premier leauge starts if we could find a side that would play him. Mendy could cover Ndidi so its win win all round. Unless Rodgers has re-thought how to set up against the big boys after the thrashings over christmas in which case we better keep as he would probably start the cup final (if we reach it) and Man City home match.

Can't let him go out. He won't play every game but is effectual when he plays and provides cover which we need with Ndidi out. At either of those clubs he would start every game which could help his development but as we are likely to be in Europe next season, Hamza will get plenty of starts due to the increase of games we play. Giving him 13 or so starts now whilst we have many battles of our own in league and cup isn't worth it.

Nice try Brucey !! ...  don’t be put off though ...  why not have another try and go for that old fella that plays up front ..  you know the one that looks like old man Steptoe ...    give him a bit of a run out before his knees go ...   :)

Ignoring the obvious fact Rodgers does not trust Meddy to play him. And then Mendy gets cropped and see the scenes as we then go onto misss out on top 4 all because we wanted to give Hamza 14 games at the end if the season when hes going to get loads next season anyway.

Some people here really dont think.
