Guest Dirkster the Fox Posted 31 March 2020 Posted 31 March 2020 Without doubt the vast majority of people are very concerned right now (Covid-19) and also financially very worried about their future. Footballers are in many ways on a parallel universe to fans financially. A few earn ok income, a lot way more than most of us and a smaller group massively above the rest of society. Has Jack Grealish just seriously damaged all footballers future perception of their trade, at the very moment extremely difficult times are to follow? https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/jack-grealish-car-crash-range-rover-aston-villa-police-a9435396.html Rich, famous, then it starts by delivering a now truly hypocritical "Twitter" Message (you must stay indoors its serious everyone), next moment, possibly literally, he does the opposite. However, worst follows with one of the most half-hearted, almost condescending apologies that followed. Spoken by a man with no remorse or real concern for his future. We've all been young, made mistakes. However, his apology (sic) is the worst moment out of all this. Said with almost zero belief in the words spoken. Utterly shambolic. In a flash this is a potential disaster for footballers. Reputation tarnish (unfairly), one and all. If he gets away with this one scott free (which he probably will do), then society is truly messed up.
Brainy Posted 31 March 2020 Posted 31 March 2020 To me footballers aren't role models. I don't need Luis Suarez to refrain from spitting at someone to know you shouldn't spit at someone on a football pitch, and I don't need Jack Grealish to tell me not to leave my house right now. I can learn those things off of my parents and health experts. If I ever wanted to know how to improve my footballing ability then maybe I'll give them the light of day. Footballers are just annoying AF on social media, robots, but with todays media I can't blame them

" I want to be a Football like Player A,B,C or D,I want to earn Lots of Money like him,and win trophies, hear my named being cheared......But I Don t want to be a twat, like B or D..!!! " They idolise the football-player,not the character.... There will always be some who are impressional...Some adults when watching soaps, also believe its Alright to be dip-sticks,in Real life!!!

The sad reality is that the money had already gotten so out of control that I feel fairly confident stating most of us aren't surprised by Grealish or any other player like him. They live in a world that's just out of touch with ours. Edit: not quite sure how I managed that, meant to quote @StanSP
Fox92 Posted 1 April 2020 Posted 1 April 2020 I don't follow what players do off the field because more often than not they just piss me off. I couldn't care less what Fuchs or Maddison posted on social media. They aren't role models to me. Yes I like them as footballers, what they do in their job, but if I need a role model then I don't choose a footballer. The social media stuff they do, the general "thanks for your support" messages after games, it's just copied churned PR stuff they all do.
filbertway Posted 1 April 2020 Posted 1 April 2020 I imagine he's feeling a bit embarrassed and probably not even realised the potential impact of his actions. Then some PR person will be telling him to apologise and repeat a message. My guess he was most likely told to do it, it's gonna be hard to sound genuine.
foxy boxing Posted 1 April 2020 Posted 1 April 2020 There are different levels and types of intelligence and stupidity, and sometimes smart people can be dumb and sometimes dumb people can be smart. You can be smart at one thing and dumb in another way.
nnfox Posted 2 April 2020 Posted 2 April 2020 Grealish is one of the worst role-models out there. He is very easy to dislike off the pitch. There have been and are plenty of others as bad or worse. Social media picks up on it more now than ever before, so you'll hear about it more now. Make no mistake, that pathetic apology from Grealish was forced out because he had been caught - no other reason. He won't change. He's like that, because that's the type of person he is - the money doesn't make a difference. If he were poor, he'd still be an idiot. There are plenty of great role-models out there within football though. Lots of footballers do great things with their money and their time, it just doesn't make for sensational headlines.

Is he going to be prosecuted for drink driving as well? I mean - you pop out when you’re not supposed to because your a selfish **** and above everybody else - whilst supposedly being a leader and captain of men... that makes you a dick, sure but why is his Range Rover hitting other parked cars on his way home? At some point people who think they can do what they want need to be brought to book to keep us other mere mortals safe from their cvntish behaviours. Needs 3 months inside. And I’m no advocate of jail as a punishment. The only time it works is short sharp shock for the rich and long term to protect the public from dangerous individuals. But Grealish fits the former criteria nicely.

I agree but without knowing the full facts about the incident, I would think the worst that will happen to him would be a slap on the wrist for failing to stop at the scene of an accident. There should be some kind of clear Code of Ethics for footballers. If they bring the game into disrepute for their off field activities then the FA should be able to impose lengthy bans.

Tbf he does a fair bit for charity. But you never realise because he doesn't tell everyone about it. I heard a piece on him on 5live once, when Villa were in the Championship. He has previously done a couple of stupid things but he was young then and has since not been caught up in all that. I'm not condoning his recent actions of course, it was fvcking stupid and he knows it, but what are you basing "very easy to dislike off the pitch" on?
Leicesterpool Posted 2 April 2020 Posted 2 April 2020 To be honest it's not just about footballers it's youngsters today, what you've got here is a young lad whose got money to burn and decides to abuse his position. It's okay footballers to come out and say there "sorry" but lets face it they don't care... they'll do it again. Don't care for authority and just have no respect in general. Football clubs don't care either... you know Villa will give him slap on wrist, but even if they did respond... he'll just sulk off and demand transfer and go to another club earn big bucks there and probably do same again.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 2 April 2020 Posted 2 April 2020 When gazza was getting pissed up and instated he was an English hero

The parked cars have all been shown a yellow card and banned from driving for 12 months.

Guest Manini Posted 3 April 2020 Posted 3 April 2020 Gazza was an alcoholic. He had a genuine addiction I’m not trying to make excuses for his behaviour but he had a very real problem that nobody wanted to (or he didn’t want) help with. All of this going on and he was still one of the best English players, if not THE best technically, to ever walk the Earth.

He seemed to have matured a lot and didn’t even really seem like a bad bloke (bar the hair and brummy accent). He’s been absolutely stupid going out and socialising during lockdown though, as well as allegedly drink driving and leaving the scene. Maybe it’ll be back to square one and it might hamper his hopes of a massive move. What has he done in the past? Genuine question. I know he got p!ssed up and passed out in the street but that’s something and nothing.

He's still very young and captaining the club that he and his family love, that's reason to have a drink now and then. What he did during this lockdown was stupid, agreed. Although this news about Kyle Walkers shows that Grealish isn't the only one. No mention of Walker in this thread though because it doesn't suit people's agendas.

Both were very irresponsible things to do. Walker didn’t smash his car up whilst drunk and flee the scene. Not that I’m defending what Walker did at all.
