There's arguments for and against...will the virus be under control...will it be under control in every participating city...will the money be too important to turn down...will UEFA prioitise UCL over Euro 2021...will it be necessary to stop a breakaway league...will UEFA select participants on the basis of brand appeal rather than where they finished in their domestic league...will Government's support its taking place or prevent it...

So many questions, no question marks.

Are they actually questions if they don't have question marks at the end (?)...

CL is expected to go ahead as normal next season. No final decision has been made regarding this, so far it has been suspended indefinitely, however, if we get back to playing in June they may consider doing a follow on tournament to decide a winner. There’s no reason for it no to still go ahead next season. Just write this one off and go ahead as normal next season.

Doesn’t not finishing this seasons comp not open yet more financial complications though?

One thing's for sure is that it's not going ahead like normal. Empty stadiums at the very least but I'd be surprised if it's as big a competition.

Uefa are greeding sods though so will try and keep everything going.

If next season needs cutting back a bit then European competitions won't be those impacted. The money involved is so high. UEFA will be desperate to keep them normal.

It's a lot more likely that FA Cup replays get scrapped and the League Cup doesn't run for a season. If a bit more time needs saving then the UEFA Nations League could possibly be cut from the schedule as well to reduce international breaks. In Europe, there could be a smaller winter break just covering Christmas and New Year.

Nothing I've said is perfect but everybody may need to sacrifice a bit to get the season played and to help the calendar return to normal.

I don't see why any competition will be binned off for a season. The League cup could run, but without the teams who qualify for Europe, and play the matches on the same nights as the European games

Agree, very Early with decision of lockdown I thought & posted,Ok !! cancel League-cup for One season.

But why..!! Even if the season starts late...

* All cup competitions to be played & with your suggestion..( Now my preference)

* Or agree & Allow both Cup competitions to have teams from Top 6, to Play only youngsters/fringe/returniing from injury players.

I don’t think it would be fair to get the top 6 to do that. Look at Liverpool’s kids dismantling by Villa’s reserves in the League Cup.

You’d no doubt have a double digit score line or two if it were teams like that playing.

These clubs are worldwide franchises and it would bring the integrity of competition in to question.

Or either Leeds or Peterboroughs might Squeeze through...Competition is competition, they are all Big boys..They All want to prove their worth...

Oh and that One game Villa-Pool wouldnt become the rule...look at us beating Southampton 0-9...

Plus L'pool, played only their youth,I believe..!

Re the 'binned off ' comment earlier,' i agree they shouldn't but think they will be, due to TV companies not wanting the competition. I reckon its the end for the League Cup.

Looks like UEFA have made some light plans on this front already...

"Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the deadline for entering the tournament had been postponed until further notice. Moreover, UEFA sent a letter to all member associations that domestic leagues must be completed in full without ending prematurely in order to qualify for European competitions."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020–21_UEFA_Champions_League

But this also points towards UEFA's big problem in saying or planing anything concrete right now - because bar a handful of teams, no one has legitimately qualified for any of next seasons European competitions yet.

I imagine if the big 5 leagues - England, Spain, Italy, Germany & France - can finish, UEFA will start making moves from there.

But another factor worth considering is that borders across Europe are locked down - taking the decision on whether teams could travel (if games were re-established) out of UEFA's hands at present.

Finally - it needs to be pointed out that even if we do come out of lock down at some point over the next 4/8/12 or however many weeks - there is no guarantee that will be it and it's problem solved.

There could be a second wave of the pandemic or need to reconsider a loosening of restrictions if it turns out that relaxation of social distancing rulings isn't working as envisaged.

It's not up to me to decide and if City don't make the Euro-cut, then there is no way it should go ahead, I expect that the money will talk and the Euro competitions will go ahead.
