Muzzy - what a Star

So many great goals in there and always a safe bet for a penalty.

I mean my favourite goal, and still the best goal I've seen live by a LCFC player, is still his overhead kick at Grimsby (always will be probably) but I always loved his goal at Elland Road in 03/04.

If I could have any player back it'd be Izzet.

I saw an OptaJoe stat the other week: In 03/04 (we were obviously relegated) Izzet got the most assists that season :o Amazing.

So under rated by the world of football.

Should've played for England, why we were never having to fight off big bids for him I don't understand.

The first clip, is what away days should be about, running to the front when we score, cant see any over 70 year old women sitting at the front there! (Sorry lady’s) but i wish Our away support was more like this now

Blame it on the hooligans who couldn't stay in the stand and were hell bent of making trouble.

Absolute legend. One of, if nor the, favourite player of mine, ever to wear the shirt. Always good for a goal against Derby and Chelsea, lots of headed goals too.

still see him a lot at home games, in and around.

Served him and his son in Fosse Park Clark’s about 7 years ago. His son was really well mannered and polite and Muz was a proper gent. Best day at work ever that.

I'm sure he scored directly from a corner against Sheffield Wednesday and it was mysteriously disallowed. We won 3-0, no idea why it wasn't given.

Some belters in that selection and what a header of the ball in front of goal, for a small man he was so dangerous.

IMO Muzzy would get into our current team, ahead of one of Tielemans or Maddison. Under MON we played fairly attritional football; we were very well drilled and organised but didn't really look to play a technical style of dominate the play. Muzzy was technically very gifted, just look at some of the goals he scored for us; they are a real mixture of bangers, getting into the right place at the right time and keeping cool and composed under pressure. The Lennon, Savage, Izzet trio felt like a basic version of Ndidi, Maddison and Tielemans, but other than Guppy, we didn't really have the rest of the team to support a core attacking style and two up top means we didn't link play together so much. I genuinely think under a coach like Rodgers, Izzet would have thrived. The impact of players like Chilwell, Ricardo, Soyuncu and Evans means we can recycle the ball over and over, and having Barnes and Vardy gives us a much better attack than in the MON days.

Criminally underrated by the rest of the league and possibly a bit too ahead of his time, he is one of my favourite ever players and brought us all some tremendous memories. I am delighted he won silverware whilst representing us too. That MON team had many underrated heroes; Elliott, Taggart, Guppy, Izzet, Lennon, etc. It was a great team!

Watched it earlier. Didn't realise he scored quite as many headers for us. Impressive considering his size. And the amount of Guppy assists lol

Before Vardy he was my all time favourite player. Absolutely love the guy

Another underrated player who felt a bit ahead of his time. I wonder how much he would have gone for these days? He played left wing back for us, but in the modern game he would have been converted into a left back and would have probably been sensational. His delivery was unreal, and his defensive contribution underrated. As well as providing the assists he always got back to do his bit for the team.

Reminds me of Albrighton a little bit. You know what he's going to do but he somehow still manages to get that cross in

Would he have played for England if his name wasn't a foreign one?

Tough competition at the time and wasn't playing for a fashionable club. He had the talent no doubt about it

Don't know, he deserved at least one call-up. There was a big clamour in 1999 for it, he'd started that season on fire and by mid-October had about 10 goals in all competitions.

He was super close to a call-up and I was surprised he didn't get one given it would have been very PC to give him his chance.

This was the list of midfielders in the England squad at 2002, during which Izzet played against Brazil in the semi-finals:

- David Beckham

- Paul Scholes

- Nicky Butt

- Kieron Dyer

- Owen Hargreaves

- Joe Cole

- Trevor Sinclair

Izzet was better than Dyer, but I think the other central midfielders were better than him. He was probably better than Butt, but his role in the team was to do the dirty work whereas Muzzy was more of a box-to-box number 8 style play, even though he wore the 6 shirt!

I think he was kept out because of the better quality in his position, look how many foreign names there are now, Alli, Gomez, Abraham, Odoi

One of my favourite “goals” of his wasn’t in an game but in a training session at Filbert Street

25 yard volley side on Went top corner clipping the underneath of the crossbar

Love Muzzy. Could grace any of our teams.

Also, another video that shows how good Heskey was.
