Coupla reasons:

 

- Firstly, it must be the Senate who is the impeachment jury, normally in garden-variety court cases they'd remove such jurists for the reasons you state but seeing as they can't replace them here it's not possible.

- Secondly, considering the case and the man being tried itself I actually think it would be difficult, if not impossible, to find twelve impartial and unbiased people in the whole of the US, let alone in the Senate itself.

There's lots of that going on. He's obviously a reprehensible human but he seems to have been weighed, measured, and judged before trial which - even in spite of him being awful - seems at odds with the moral stance of those trying him. 

 

If he's guilty whatever the weather on the basis of him being dislikable (again, not arguing for him) then isn't that on a par with him?

This may all be true, but again, I'm struggling to think of an alternative when it has to the the US Senate that tries him and pretty much everyone not living underneath a rock has chosen a side on this one.
