I work with his auntie or some relation like that.. From the very limited chat we've had about him, he sounds like an extremely down to earth guy who isn't flashy with his money and if you didnt know who he was you wouldnt guess he was a footballer!

That doesn't take away from the fact he is absolute dog water though and should be nowehere near our 11. He's defo not the arsehole though that some people have suggested he is.

Thanks for posting that. I said earlier on this chain that people should stop making mean comments about his personality and lifestyle unless they know for sure, and instead just comment on his performances. He’s clearly completely out of form and confidence. ( Goodness why he does that stupid body holding thing).

I'd argue had Danny Ward not been in goal the season we went down, we'd of stayed up though, he was that terrible as an individual footballer.

I agree with that. Thanks, Brendan.

Agree with you mate, but I know for sure he’s got a terrible work ethic (though that’s pretty evident by his lack of progress over 5 years). Not saying he’s a bad lad tho!

PS. I don’t come on here to spread malicious rumours (as you can see I’m an infrequent poster but have been a member here for >20years….)

Realise this risks going off topic about Thomas but when anyone starts going on about his lifestyle outside of football you very quickly show your jealousy.

I think as a footballer you're instantly hated until you do anything good. That's just the nature of the beast now. They're that overpaid that the typical fan has developed apathy towards them all compared to what I guess it used to be like for fans. The days of genuine connection feel long gone. Even in the case of our local players.

Don't get me started on the bald pub men who can't wait to knock the Grealish and Maddison types. Definitely no jealousy there whatsoever.

In this instance, it's a lad earning very good money from the club who has made little progress physically or ability wise, so I think to question his desire or motivation is fair. Hard to blame him, we've given him a comfortable life and like many players at the club, why put in the effort if you're getting good money for 3, 4 or 5 years anyway.

Agreed in general though, people crying over footballers being spotted living their life after a loss and people making out that they should be at home sobbing into a pillow, can't abide that stuff.

Agree with last part but I draw the line at being out on the piss in a hotel room after losing to them lot. Don't expect them to care like we do but ****in hell.

When has he ever been in form? (and please don't just say "but but he has Salah in his pocket")

This is his form. Unfortunately for us we have no other option. VK seems to be unliked in the squad. This is as a result of us letting JJ go with no real plan. Buying/loaning another LB is as important if not more than getting a striker in my opinion.

The plan was VK and Thomas at left back with Ricardo and Hamza at right back would be good enough for this level.

They've all underperformed when they've played this season.

Oh, I don’t know !  I wasn’t going to say Salah- vaguely remember a run of games when he did ok, but can’t be sure. Who don’t you ask Matt Elliott ; he was praising him on a live comms very recently.

The point of my post was to ask for the personal attacks on him, and others, to stop. None of those doing it would say it to him in person.

I agree with most of this but people don’t like certain footballers with good reason. The typical modern footballer; arrogant and completely out of touch with normal people. When people spend 8 grand on a weird rucksack it rubs people up the wrong way. And yes, I do have personal anecdotes to support this view of him.

People are jealous of rich successful people yes, why shouldn’t they be in an unequal and unfair society? It’s not meritocratic. But that’s not the only thing. People want to knock them because they don’t find them remotely relatable. It’s a representation thing. People were always more forgiving of someone like Gazza because, in spite of his many faults, he seems like someone you might know.

Maddison isn’t having a beer with you. If Thomas is I’m more inclined to like him in this day and age! Shame he’s rubbish.

I once had the misfortune of being lectured by a bloke once who said that Gazza is so good he should be able to beat up any woman he wants.

I find people are oddly selective of who they chose to like.  I'd take a Louis Vuitton bag over a wife beater.

I think if you're getting rubbed up the wrong way with a player buying an expensive bag then you're a complete loser.

If you're getting rubbed up by them drink driving, assaulting people, getting away with things that Joe public would be vilified for, then fair enough, totally agree.  But I don't give a shit about players that buy expensive shit I wouldn't buy or wear a dress or put fxxking makeup on or any shit that doesn't actually negatively impact on anyone else.

I’m not equating the two things or the two people. So regardless of what I might know about certain players not being great guys either, it’s not the point.

The idea lifestyle shouldn’t bother people is absolute nonsense. There is a complete denigration of society and community and it’s rooted in the fact that the rich do not have a shared experience with normal people. Football, being a sport in which players are representing their community, is immediately less meaningful for this reason. They aren’t representing anything but corporations now. If Luke Thomas is drinking in his local it doesn’t make him a better person, but it absolutely makes him more relatable.

It doesn’t make you a ‘loser’ to be poorer than a footballer and not be happy about it. Remember the days when people used to say those on the NHS workers were getting ripped off and footballers were overly privileged? Yeh, at least that sentiment was fair, even if you don’t blame footballers for it. People have a right to be enraged at the state of the world, and all this apathetic stuff celebrating people who want to rub in your face how rich they are isn’t going to fix anything. An awareness, a consciousness if you will, is at least a step in the right direction.

Interesting. I've seen the occasional comment on here regretting the loss of JJ. Yet he got the same pelters last season as Thomas is getting now, and mostly it seems to be that he isn't coping in one-on-one situations with the winger.

While I'm not trying to excuse Thomas (and I particularly dislike his pathetic attempts to rugby tacke or pull back his winger rather than making a better attempt to block him or to chase back) I do feel that our set-up seems to leave our fullback badly exposed.  We keep complaining that our wingers only receive the ball when they are stationary and doubly marked, but the opposition wingers are often receiving the ball when on the run and only have our fullback to beat, and having to start by  backpedalling isn't the best way to defend.

I can't out my finger on why that's happening - is it our formation, or that our wingers don't drop back to help, or because our midfield is so weak and appears outnumbered?

This is such a simple tactic that every team we face uses.  If only our wingers and full back could study how to pass and move.

Thomas never seems to offer anything in attack or defence. JV bend out of position a lot of the time doesn’t help anyone.

The defence has a habit of backing off and allowing the opposition to pass/shoot rather than trying to make a tackle/block or put them off.  Playing a high line with players that are slow, back off and can’t tackle doesn’t help.

Sadly there is no difference between any of those 4 now.  3 of them are a known know but this season Ricardo after he scored in those two games, has looked sad, slow and boring.
