If you include Oxford in the midlands you may as well include Banbury, Bichester, Milton Keynes and Buckingham. I don't even want these places in the midlands. I know the football isn't up to that much currently but I'm not sure I even want to invade the south. We could swap Peterborough for Milton Keynes though. Peterborough was a depressing, depressing place last time I was there. Milton Keynes, I've been advised, has a couple of decent boozers.

Milton Keynes is awesome.   Great city.

Not so keen on the football team though.

I can remember when many were raging about us not signing some striker who’s name I can’t remember when released from his club. He eventually went to a team in league 1 and was never heard of again. lol

Was it Craig Mackail-Smith?

Player of the midlands, he's got to be Kevin Phillips... has he played for Villa, West Brom, Birmingham and Leicester and a coaching spell at Derby.

Curtis Davies has done all that and played for Derby.

Surely Wes Morgan?

Shout out for Des Lyttle, can’t remember if he played a game for us, but was definitely our youth product. Played for Forest, WBA and Northampton possibly more too, after a steady career at Forest he seemed to pop up everywhere.

Joachim played for Cov, Villa, Boston United (do they count) and Walsall after leaving us, as well as many midlands non league clubs.

And Tricky Trevor Benjamin played for every club in the bottom two divisions between 2005 and 2010, rumour has it he still haunts the penalty box of local clubs up and down the country to this day.

Actually, it's the other way round. Middlesbrough was historically in Yorkshire and then became part of Cleveland and Scunthorpe/Grimsby were in Lincolnshire and became part of Humberside. Since then, further local government reforms and the introduction of unitary authorities etc have fragmented a lot of historic counties even further.

Historic county boundaries are on the map below...

And that's the way it should be!

I used to be fascinated (I was a sheltered, dull child) by the lTV regions.

Peterborough straddled anglia and Central. So did Northampton. Luton came under anglia for reasons unknown. But Hunstanton could get Yorkshire, blowing across from Skeg.

Oxford was under Central South. But could pick up TVS and Carlton.

What did the H in HTV mean that served Bristol and the Taffs? Never found out.

How many viewers did Border or Grampian used to get? .....

Endlessly fascinating... 😁

I think you will find that the H was for Harlech, as in "Men of Harlech".  I was also interested in thus kind if thing as a child. Growing up in north-west Norfolk, I suffered the trauma of the local transmitter switching from Anglia to Yorkshire. It made no sense: Norwich was the regional centre, while Leeds and various towns I only knew from rugby league on Granstand were completely alien.

Just thought it’s worth celebrating another season as Kings of the Midlands!

In the midlands we have about 10 decent sized clubs who are all very similar in terms of size and supporter base. Whilst others have had European Cups and Fa Cups, we have often been left behind.

Fot the second season in a row we are the undisputed Kings of the Midlands.
 2020/21 below.

1. Leicester

2.Aston Villa

3. Wolves

4.WBA

5. Stoke

6. Coventry

7. Forest

8. Birmingham City

9. Derby

10. Peterborough

11. Lincoln

12. Oxford

How can you call Oxford a midlands side? They are far closer to the south. A mere bus ride from High Wycombe, or do I live in the midlands?

Getting on for a decade of dominance now, not sure I can see anyone challenging us any time soon either.

Love the confidence but we finished only 1 point ahead of wolves! 🤣
