Hopefully Popov gets some time

Should've started Maswanhise, Alves, Popov behind Wakeling and gone 4 at the back

We make such bizarre team selections. Hughes and Russ have been nowhere near the U23's squads for weeks but are always drafted in the Papa John's games. Baffling.

Agreed, Petty is another whiffy operator like Beaglehole. Just how Rudkin likes um.

Who's Popov? Remember we were linked to a highly rated Popov a year or so ago or is this some other dude?

Got him from Man Utd. Only just turned 17, been absolutely tearing it up for our U18's this season. Left footed winger/forward.

Very weird leaving VDC out seeing as he is captain and the most "experienced", although possibly suctioned to a toilet after training with the first team recently? That Ronny Nelson seems to have disappeared as well

Odunze/Young

Hughes, Spencer-Adams, Brunt, Flynn

Ewing, Suengchitthawon

Popov, Alves, Maswanhise

Wakeling

It isn't hard

Isn’t this thing U21s does that affect the team selection?

Is it because these games are usually played in the international breaks? Do we have a few regulars away on international duty?

Braybrooke, Marcal-Madivadua, and Ben Nelson who all usually start

These seem to be the only rules

I think the team just looks a bit weird because we haven't got VDC or the 3 International lads

So five over-21 players, of which two can't have made more than 40 first team appearances. As an aside, I think it would be helpful for development if the premier league had a bench rule similar 7 (or 9) regular substitutes, and another five for U21's without x-number of starts. Let some youth get some experience during any blowout (not that we have had any of those recently.)

Usually Braybrooke, Kian Pennant, Brad Young and Ben Nelson are away with England youth, Popov and Ewing with Wales youth and then Wanya Marca with Portugal. Looks like Wales haven't got any games this time around and Young hasn't been called up for England U20's.

We have decided to seldom play wingers which is just bizarre as our most promising U23 player is Maswanhise who Rodgers is seriously impressed with and whom had started the U23 season remarkably and got a goal and assist last week but in the last 5-6 games has usually been benched or played out of position. What's the purpose of the academy, its truly peculiar.

Strange how they schedule this trophy during the international break. It’s supposed to let the best young players play against experienced EFL players/sides. Yet all the best young players miss out on it. so what’s the point? lol

The scheduling is very inconsistent,  maybe PL teams have to play during international breaks but it's odd.

It's odd, but in this case, there's no point anyway. Barrow can't advance. They are playing their sub-reserves in this.

Maswanhise great work for the 1st goal, great finish for the 2nd

Centre backs all over the place for their 3 goals

Wahahahahaaaaa only just seen these, so not only did we concede 3 in injury time, they'd gone down to 10 men as made all their subs and to add insult to injury it was their goalie who went off and a striker went in goal. That potentially ought to be enough for the whole academy to be closed down. Disgraceful.
