2 - although think Alves is slightly Portugese too and Wanya has brothers in the setup

Alves had a Portugal call up last year but covid prevented him travelling.

Is it possible that players learn different skills from playing in different structures or formations. That Maswanhise playing in a more attacking role closer to goal might show him a different view/experience of the game.  Perhaps coaching in order to make him a better outside attacker and more adaptable to the different circumstances a manager would place on him.

To me, although winning is important, shouldn't the emphasis be placed on development?

...probably a bit too late to put this into motion!!!

The Ajax system had them doing this at a much younger age and moving them around in different positions gave them an understanding of what was required to play that position. The outcome is that you not only know what to do in certain positions but understand what the players around need from you.

Asking for the age levels to adopt a formation which is the same as the first team serves to allow us to integrate players from the academy.

Rodgers said that is what he has put in motion, and the performances of the academy players are said to, according to Rodgers, be the result of putting this into place.

Recently played for England again and scored

...it all seems to strike me as strange that a young player with a dual heritage flip flops regarding who he plays for!!!

I would suppose the England gig would be the easiest option, there will be a lot of expectation from your current club mates and supporters of that club.

I don’t blame them whilst they don’t need to commit. I think Ben Nelson has done the same between Scotland and England recently.

...if it is a financial thing, then to some extent I would understand!!!

The image rights and other commercial aspects do give you an added income as well as exposure. Especially if you opt to play for, say England as opposed to Scotland.

But surely you must know, from the age of, I would say 5 years old, if you are one nationality or another. .

I think it’s more about realising your talent level. Think Nelson has probably realised (or been advised) his ability to play for England in the future over Scotland. Same as others who have maybe realised they’re not good enough and have chosen to play for their second nation instead - Tyrese Shade for Antigua or Muskwe for Zimbabwe recent examples from our academy in recent years.

Interested to see who Alves opts to play for - England or Portugal, think I saw on Twitter at the weekend he’s also eligible for Ireland.

Some people just want to play international football, I don't think Matty Cash at Villa grow up dreaming of playing for Poland instead of England.

I think playing in a World Cup or Euros can be more of a motivation the money/income at times

I'd say that for a lot of players, they also may not know which country they'd rather represent. They will obviously have a lot of affinity to the country they've been born and raised in, but what if, say, a foreign-born grandparent was influential in shaping their childhood and fledgling career and they want to repay that in part by representing their grandparent's country of birth? An example of this is Riyad Mahrez who was born in France to an Algerian father and Algerian/Moroccan mother, and always wanted to represent Algeria. It doesn't necessarily mean that he doesn't consider himself to be French to some degree.

There are so many variables and in today's connected and cosmopolitan world, it may not be so cut and dry as to say, 'I definitely want to represent X country instead of Y or Z who I'm also eligible for.'

As others have said, working out which country may give them the best chance of playing in/winning tournaments may factor. Also, the chance to win more caps may swing the decision another way.

Plus, as in the case of Jamal Musiala, the interest taken in the player by the international federation may have a heavy influence.

There are so many things to consider.

....is it possible that as soon as you have reached a certain age and have stipulated your allegiance, you then are unable to represent another country!!!

You will then end up with a player playing in one international game and then never picked again, with no chance of ever playing International games ever again.

Muzzy picked Turkey because he knew he was never going to play for England, not because he wasn't good enough either.

...do you mean, he felt that England would never pick him to play, or he had made up his mind that his allegiance laid elsewhere!!!

This, hence why I said not because he wasn't good enough.

Only found out about his name after f going on England Under 15 discussion board.  Do we also have a Tanzanian striker Kelvin John too?

Yes we have. That's how I discovered Reece Evans who's got Zimbabwean heritage and is a beast in the making. There was an article written about them a year or so ago.
