It would be so good to win the FA Youth Cup. I don't think we've ever won it, but must have a chance with the talent we seem to have at the moment

Someone posted in here that tickets were available, so me and me dad decided to go down to try and have a snoop at the training ground at the same time. Sadly it was foggy so we couldn’t see a bloody thing .

 

First time I’ve been to a youth game. Kept a keen eye on the players who’ve been involved in the first team - Nelson was solid at the back, won practically everything in the air. Braybrooke was dynamic, some great tackling and progressive play. Alves made some great runs into the right places but lacked confidence in what to do with it next. The lad’s 16 though!!

 

Lindsay and Cover caught the eye a bit. Wormleighton was very impressive on the wing and should have registered a few assists. Popov kept hitting the woodwork!

 

On the whole they played really well, I don’t remember our keeper having to make a save - he was very vocal though. 
 

Easy to forget that these are still very young lads. With Rodgers bringing them into the fold even when we’re not in an injury crisis speaks volumes about the long term improvement in our set up and the bright future it has. 
 

Speaking of Rodgers, he was also there tonight, watching from the balcony of the Sports Turf Academy. He has his critics and fair enough, but you can’t say he’s not committed to the job and the long term investment of players.

He played last night. He was a bit aggressive and picked up a yellow quite early on, but otherwise like Nelson he was quite solid.

Not yet, surprised he's not yet stepped up to the U23's given the pursuit we did with him. He's surely at that level already? That said, this U18 team seems to have way more talent and confidence than the U23's, so like Popov and Pennant, maybe it's better to keep him at this level for the season.

It bothers me a bit that like the U23's the U18's also played with a back five last night, and ended up with Popov and Alves up front when both are wingers / attacking midfielders.

Yeah it's strange. Both used to lay 4-2-3-1 and then changed and have kept it, long after the 1st team reverted back to a back 4. It's quite clear Rodgers only uses that system as an absolute last resort.

Thought it was Godsmark-Ford who was booked. Did Grist get a yellow too?

I have seen from some videos / pictures that the fog ended up really bad

At some point I couldn't see what was happening on the other side of the pitch. You could make out the scoreboard but not much else.

 

Was getting Blackburn at Filbert Street in 96 flashbacks.
