Jamie Vardy becomes co-owner of Rochester Rhinos (American Football Team "Soccer")

Not a fan of getting involved with America. It's American owners that have come here and want this European Super League.

Wish he'd have gone lower league instead, especially Stocksbridge. Even more so in the current pandemic.

She’s been to NYC before and watched a game with New York Foxes. Rochester is, let’s just say, very different to NYC and not very close at all. :P

Welcome to Rochester NY Jamielol

Good luck Jamie!

Its a small city destroyed by the movable feast that is Globalization and Financialization. Except with Guns. I grew up in Upstate NY and the cities are mostly the same for the poor and the middle class. A struggle. Welcome to America.

Yeah, the owners of the mighty Rochester Rhinos are coming for your wife and daughter.

He might be doing some good there at least.

He absolutely will. Every bit counts. Its not all inner city as he and his wife should love all the wineries on the Finger Lakes to the south. Some decent breweries as well.

They'll be disappointed then.

Rochester Rhinos away would be a great pre-season friendly.

Bloody long way to come though tbf. You’d probably need an East Coast tour to try and get some of the clubs somewhat near each other and not knacker the boys before a full season. Works for NFL but not a small squad that play a lot of games like we do in football.

MLS is also mid-season during our pre-season time, so can't imagine many if any at all would be interested in a friendly

It was only a tongue-in-cheek remark.

Stocksbridge are on their knees. Hope he helps them out.

there are rules about that as he is still playing in England, Harry Kane had to get permission to sponsor Leyton Orient's shirts

The Rochester Rhinos are about as far as you can get from MLS right now 😂

Who is that New York club that Pele played for? I remember they always came up on Football Manager as a choice for friendlies in America lol

Didn't Heskey chip in when we were in admin whilst playing for Liverpool though?

Rochester is about as close to NYC as London is to Glasgow ... too small for skyscrapers even in its heyday ... and since the 1980s there's less and less left of its economy.  The only football club there the last few years is the Lancers, a mediocre outfit in the fourth (99% amateur) tier my club usually destroys.  I cannot imagine a scenario where the city could support an MLS club (i.e. one with a return on the $200M - $350M franchise fee).

This must be something of a passion project for JV.  He'd surely be welcomed into the owners' suite at many MLS clubs, but if he's attracted to such an underdog town and club, how can you not love him for it?  It could be the same impulse that kept him at LCFC.

If he does decides to play a season there, it's only 4-1/2 hours from us, with the scenery and wineries of the Finger Lakes in between.  :vardy:

Just shy of three hours drive for me. Steve Guppy was indeed at the Rochester Rhinos. I was supposed to meet him at a game between Toronto FC and Aston Villa, but he couldn’t make it. He did, however, send me a Leicester shirt signed by all the players. I still have it. Despite Guppy’s non-appearance, I got to wave my Leicester scarf and cheer MON, who was situated near my seat. (My wife refused to allow me to put MON IS GOD on my car number plate several years prior. He is one of my all time heroes and it was great to see him again).

So this is the stadium in which they use to play, to give an idea of venue:

More importantly, Rochester, aside from being the home to both Xerox and Kodak (two shining examples of companies that missed their respective boats) is also home to a particular regional delight known as the garbage plate:

It really is a perfect dish for a place that has 8 months of winter.
