What was the reason for the decline of Umbro?

In Umbro's growth process, it has won the World Cup with a number of powerful green talents,

including the 1966 World Cup champion England team.

The same year was also Umbro's most glorious historical moment,

which entered the final Fifteen of the top 16 teams wear Umbro jerseys.

Where is Umbro now?

They were doing fine until the late 90's. Nike getting seriously involved in football was the beginning of the end for them and losing the England contract was huge. They have a couple of PL sides like West Ham and Burnley and a fair few championship clubs but they just got priced out of the top teams.

They currently manufacture the England Rugby Union kit, which I think is absolutely fine, but they have got an awful lot of unwarranted criticism from rugby fans just because of their association with Football.

The competitor is too strong. But what about Manchester United's competitors.

Nike bought Umbro to secure the contract and then subsequently flogged Umbro to another party. Similar happened with Adidas and Reebok.

Interesting. I think they own the likes of Slazenger, Karrimor, Dunlop, Lonsdale, Kangol and Donnay too so wouldn't be surprised.

Not so much Ashley but going to Sports Direct would have destroyed them as a Brand.

 

They have a decent collaboration range with Pretty Green. Some nice 90s retrowear. That wouldn't have happened with Sports Direct.

Why did she come to this point?
